The Israel Defense Forces captured Wednesday a senior Hamas terrorist who helped mastermind the 2002 suicide bombing at a Passover seder at Park Hotel in Netanya, in which 29 people were killed and nearly 150 others wounded.
Omar Jabar, who headed Hamas' military wing in the West Bank city of Tul Karm, was among seven wanted Palestinians detained by the IDF early Wednesday.
Jabar was arrested in a town northeast of Tul Karm by IDF infantry troops, who raided a house in which one of Jabar's aides was believed to be hiding when it became apparent that Jabar himself was at the scene. Jabar tried to flee, but was captured along with his aide.
Jabar was responsible for recruiting the individual who led the bomber to Park Hotel, and helped plan the attack alongside Abbas Sayed, who headed Hamas in Tul Karm. Sayed himself is also in Israel custody, and is among those Hamas is demanding Israel release in exchange for abducted Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit.
