Also on Thursday, militants in Gaza fired at least seven Qassam rockets and four mortar shells at Israel. One of the rockets scored a direct hit on a house in Sderot. There were no reports of injuries.

"Sergeant Liran Banai, who was critically wounded in an explosion near central Gaza last Thursday, has died of his wounds in Beersheba's Soroka Medical Center Sunday morning.

The 20-year-old Banai from Ashkelon served at Givati Brigade's Tzabar battalion as a jeep driver. He has been fighting for his life at the hospital for the past three days, after both his legs were amputated in the blast.

An IDF tracker was killed in the same incident, after Palestinians detonated an explosive device near the force's IDF Sufa jeep that was patrolling the area close to the Kissufim crossing.

Two other soldiers were lightly injured in the attack."
