Fatah gunmen execute 'collaborator' in Ramallah hospital
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=JPost/JPArticle/ShowFull&cid=1065071251681&p=1008596981749

In the second incident of its kind in recent weeks, masked men belonging to the Fatah militant organization stormed a Ramallah Hospital on Wednesday night and shot dead a Palestinian patient suspected of collaboration with Israel.

Two weeks ago, masked men from Fatah's armed wing, Aksa Martyrs Brigades, raided the Tulkarm Hospital and shot dead 27-year-old Fida Tirawi while he was undergoing surgery. Tirawi, who belonged to the same group, was killed as part of a dispute between rival groups affiliated with the Aksa Martyrs Brigades in the area.

In the Ramallah incident, eyewitnesses said four men armed with M-16 assault rifles and pistols stormed the local hospital in search of 25-year-old Nasser Kalawleh, a resident of the village of Judaideh in the Jenin district.

Kalawleh was brought to hospital after Fatah gunmen in Jenin tried to kill him on suspicion of collaboration with Israel. He was first taken to a hospital in Jenin, but was transferred to Ramallah for fear that the assailants would catch up with him there.

the now "famous" palestinian judicial system doing what they
do best.

1. The usual atrocities...
today - on both sides. There's this and there's the 600 houses being built in the settlements.

When will this stop? How long must injustice rieign in the region?

2. the "collaborator" figure is a disgraceful position
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 07:55 PM by Aidoneus
(edited on a couple occasions to move words around for the benefit of coherence)

If he was as they say, fair enough; the network of collaborators are Israel's fifth column in the OPT.

If Jews were giving Hamas bombers a ride to the scene, I can only imagine how vitriolic your ravings would be.

3. Oh, give me a break...
this was probbably a rumor - and it was acted upon. This person could well have been - and almost certainly was - innocent.

4. the 'human rights' argument against it is legitimate
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 07:23 PM by Aidoneus
I'll say that much (contrary to myself above). Yeah, it's technically illegal and more than a little thuggish (and when they get it wrong, that's not right). The 'human rights' argument (Fourth Geneva Convention) also prohibits the practice of the occupying power of enlisting collaborators as they do, and I think it's damn slimy of anyone that accepts the bribes or extortion to sell their people out.

5. I rarely defend Israel's actions in this conflict...
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 07:23 PM by Darranar
My argument against this is completely from the human rights perpsective - as is my argument against israel's actions.

6. it's a difficult question (addition on edit)
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 07:42 PM by Aidoneus
From the human rights perspective, if the health of the people is a concern, then the Israelis shouldn't be hiring collaborators--a response against them is a feature of every armed conflict since people starting gravitating into packs and forming 'sides'. What I think is really irrelevant, it'll happen as it has in conflicts before (such is the predictable idiotic familiarity of human nature).

If the guy was innocent of the accusation, that's different. He was targetted shortly before, in Jenin or Nablus (memory lapse) which is why he was in the hospital to begin wtih.

7. That's the heart fo the conflict, though...
atrocity that causes atrocity that causes atrocity - so muddled until the point is reached where it's neither and both sides' fault and the best thing that can be done for both sides is a real and just peace.

Justifying atrocities becuase of other atrocities is not moral. I don't expect many people to act moral, but that doesn't change the immorality of it.

17. Are they selling out their people, or their government?
I think we've all had the experience that that's not necessarily the same thing.

15. As I said:
"Kalawla, a resident of Jenin, had been shot in the leg the previous week by Al Aqsa men and was transferred from Jenin to a hospital in Ramallah due to fears for his safety" - Yediot Ahoronot

14. The first incident was Kalawla, not Tirawi
So I'm not sure what this section you quote has to do with anything.

13. Irrelevent
al-Aqsa is not Fatah.

Hence, if "al-Aqsa gunmen" shot Kalawla a few weeks ago, it was not "Fatah gunmen" who did it, was it?

16. Ahem Ahem....
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 07:01 AM by Equinox
everyone knows that Al Aqsa is a wing of Fatah, but they are under their own control. They'll take orders from Fatah and from Arafat if it is in line with their (Al Aqsa's) thinking.

In other words, Al Aqsa and Fatah are different. Capeesh?

Edit: fixed something
