Israeli Man Killed in Rocket Attack in Jerusalem
Edited on Sun May-27-07 10:33 AM by bemildred
Note that the headline is not accurate.

JERUSALEM, May 27 -- Israeli military aircraft fired on a Hamas post Saturday in the Gaza Strip, killing at least five gunmen from the radical Islamic movement, and Israeli troops arrested a Hamas cabinet minister, the second in less than a week.

A 10th day of Israeli airstrikes in Gaza and the arrest of Wasfi Kabha, the Palestinian minister of state, underscored Israel's determination to end Palestinian rocket fire from Gaza that has terrorized residents of several border towns in southern Israel.

But the attacks continued Saturday with Hamas gunmen launching at least 12 rockets from Gaza. Israeli military officials said one Israeli civilian was reported wounded.

On Sunday morning, a rocket barrage from Gaza mortally wounded an Israeli man from the southern city of Sderot. The man, whose name was not immediately released, died from his wounds after being rushed to Barzilai Medical Center.

1. Israeli killed by Qassam strike on car in Sderot
A Hod Hasharon resident was killed Sunday when a Qassam rocket fired from the Gaza Strip hit the car in which he was driving in the western Negev town of Sderot.

The man, 35-year-old Oshri Oz, was wounded in his neck by shrapnel, and taken to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon in critical condition. He succumbed to his wounds a short while later.

Oz was the second person to be killed by a Qassam rocket in less than a week.

Israel, Hamas trade threats as rocket kills civilian

JERUSALEM (AFP) - Israel and Hamas traded threats on Sunday as an
Israeli civilian died in a second deadly rocket strike from Gaza within
a week and the Jewish state pursued its relentless pounding of militant
targets.

Thirteen 13 civilians and 33 militants have been killed by Israeli
raids in the coastal strip in the past 12 days, and on Sunday Israel's
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told a weekly cabinet meeting: "No one
involved in terror has immunity."

Olmert added: "We are not restrained by any timetable that is dictated
from the outside. We will decide on when, where and how much we
operate, without accepting any conditions from other elements."

The armed wing of Hamas, the senior partner partner in the Palestinian
unity government, in turn warned that the Jewish state would pay "a
heavy price" if it continued its operations in Gaza and the occupied
West Bank.
