PMO: Pelosi did not carry any message to Assad
The Prime Minister's Office has strongly denied that Israel relayed a message to Syria, accepting its calls to renew peace negotiations.

The bureau responded to questions raised Wednesday by a statement made by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, following a meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad. Pelosi said she had relayed a message from Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, to the effect that Israel was ready for peace talks with Syria.

The Prime Minister's Office was quick to issue a denial, stating that "what was discussed with the House speaker did not include any change in Israel's policy, as it has been presented to international parties involved in the matter."

In a special statement of clarification, the bureau stressed that Olmert had told Pelosi that Israel continued to regard Syria as "part of the axis of evil and a party encouraging terrorism in the entire Middle East."

1. Pelosi conveying Israel message to Syria
Compare and contrast.

JERUSALEM - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) will tell Syrian leaders when she visits Damascus this week on a trip criticized by the Bush administration that Israel will only engage in peace talks if Syria stops supporting Palestinian militants, Israel said Sunday.

The message came during Pelosi's meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert during the Israel part of her Mideast tour.

"Pelosi is conveying that Israel is willing to talk if they (Syria) would openly take steps to stop supporting terrorism," Olmert's spokeswoman Miri Eisin said. "But at this point the Syrian government, by openly backing terror all around the Middle East, is not a partner for negotiations."

Israel and Syria are sworn enemies, though peace talks came close to success in 2000 before breaking down. Israel charges that Syria-based Palestinian militants are directing violence against it from the
West Bank and Gaza.

Israel seeks to reassure Syria: No summer attack

Israel's political and military leadership has been preparing in recent weeks for the possibility of a Syrian attack on the Golan Heights that will start as a result of a "miscalculation" on the part of the Syrians, who may assume that Israel intends to attack them.

Israel, however, has delivered a calming message, and has no plans to attack its northern neighbor.

<snip>

The speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, is scheduled to meet with Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus today, and will deliver a message of calm from Israel.

Doesn't Dumbya get that once he's undercut his own Sec. of State, whether to assuage her ego or hurt feelings he can't just issue orders for (more) lies to be proclaimed declaring the converse to be true

and have it believed of course... I firmly believe they're so obtuse --or insane-- that they feel that history doesn't matter one whit because only the very last thing said will ever be remembered by ALL the people. You know, 'We have always been at war with Eurasia'

Like Pandora's Box, the information is already out and we are way too inured by the transparent, and may I add critically overused 'contradictions'
i.e. palpable lies!

3. 'We have always been at war with Eurasia'
Orwell sure did call that one right, didn't he?

I just wish they would stick with one story for a day or two at a time, it would result in less cognitive whiplash.

Of course, it's really all just a clever government plot to turn our brains into Jello.

Hell, I can't even put together a simple grammatical sentence anymore, no matter how I try -- witness that last one!
(I'm not saying this to hear 'oh, you're not', cause I know it's true... I'm just trying to explain & apologize as best I can)

Please forgive my dunceness (I hate to say stupidity... even if it is true. Plenty of time for that later :()
