Barghouti Uses Closing Arguments at Murder Trial to Condemn Israel
Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti used his closing arguments at his murder trial in Tel Aviv to defend the Palestinian uprising and condemn Israel.

Mr. Barghouti says the Palestinian intifada, or uprising, is a justified reaction to what he called Israel's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

He is on trial on 26 counts of alleged murder, after playing a leading role in orchestrating the Palestinian rebellion against Israel.

23. Let him live
Tied up to a public post where the families of those he murdered can
spit and urinate upon him daily. There is no punishment cruel enough for those that target the lives of innocents.

Definitions of Zionism can have wide variations depending on whom you're talking to.

4.  brave man..
The "evidence" against him was laughable and if he had wanted to defend himself he could have made them look absolutely horrible in the court of world opinion but he stuck with his guns and his premise that it is illegal to try him in an Israeli court (which it is).

15. I'm not convinced in the slightest that he's guilty of this...
it seems to me that isarel is striking at a potential replacement to Arafat who will be more accepted among the international community and more willing to make real peace with Israel.

29. I was going to say that!
That Marwan Barghouti could be a Palestinian leader who is acceptable to the international community. Plus the fact that he can talk to the Jews in their own language. This cannot please Israel's leaders.

7. Same story, different take:
TEL AVIV, Sept. 29 - Speaking in near-perfect Hebrew,
Palestinian uprising leader Marwan Barghouthi closed his
trial in Israel on murder charges on Monday with a demand
for independence for his people as the price of peace.
''We are a people like all other people. We want freedom and a
state just like the Israelis,'' said Barghouthi, a senior figure in Yasser
Arafat's Fatah faction accused of orchestrating gun ambushes and
suicide bombings that killed 26 people.
''Israel must decide: either it allows for a (Palestinian) state
alongside it, or it becomes a state for two peoples,'' he said in an
hour-long closing argument in the language he learned in jail.
Barghouthi, 43, denies the charges while supporting a
three-year-old Palestinian uprising in the West Bank and Gaza Strip,
which Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war.

Of course I'd rather throw my lot in with Marwan that Sharon

33. I would too...
Barghouti has several good ideas, while Sharon is clearly a war criminal. Even if this junk is true (about which I am extremely skeptical) Marwan would be responsilbe for less innocent deaths then the despicable Ariel.

Barghouti is being tried on doubtful evidence, while Sharon, who is responsible for more innocent deaths with more evidence supporting the fact that he was, has never been tried in court.

wrongly accused. Then you object to my saying Daranarr has cast his lot with Barghouti as "guilt by association". It cannot be both.

It would do you well to grow some. It's served me incredibly well and lately made me seem someone with absolutely psychic powers. All you need to do is start thinking critically and start with the basis that politcians are lying and bare minimum you are right about half the time.

44. There were no suicide bombings from 67 to the late 80's
then there was a period of time in the 90's with no suicide bombings (I can't remember the exact figures), yet no justice was given. In fact, Israel increased the settlement project exponentially.

Jim, it is you that has it backwards. The Palestinians keep grabbing their ankles and the GOI (Labor and Likud) keep thrusting deeper.
