Ahmadinejad in Sudan: 'Zionists are the true manifestation of Satan'
From Ha'aretz:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in Sudan late Wednesday that "Zionists are the true manifestation of Satan," state-run IRNA news agency reported.

"The Zionists are the true manifestation of Satan," Ahmadinejad said during the state visit, speaking to a meeting of Sudanese Islamic scholars in the capital Khartoum.

Both Sudan and Iran are accused internationally of supporting radical Islamic movements.

More from the Islamic Republic News Agency (referenced in the Ha'aretz article)

The President added, "Today the Zionist regime is a symbol of hedonism and the manifestation of the ugly soul of some usurper powers that support it."

President Ahmadinejad whose comments were confirmed by "Allah-o-Akbar" (God is the Greatest) shouts of Sudanese Alims, added, "The grave problem with which the mankind is entangled today is that some tyrants have deviated a lot from the prophets' path, that is the Right Path."

He said, "We notice today that some powerful leaders consider the entire world as their own property and interpret all rules and regulations in their own favor."

Ahmadinejad considered return to the Divine Prophets' Path as the only way left for saving the mankind from the quagmire they are caught in due to deficiencies of the man made schools of thought, such as Liberalism and Communism that have failed in meeting the dire needs of the mankind.

My question: Is there a strategic reason why Ahmadinejad makes provocative comments like this?

1. Perhaps the same strategic reason
as these fellows -- spread hate for political gain:

False quotes shake up terror trial

The mystery of how and why a government wiretap summary falsely attributed anti-Jewish slurs to officials of a Muslim charity remained unanswered Tuesday as federal prosecutors pledged to look into the matter.

In court papers filed late Monday, the U.S. attorney's office in Dallas said it was trying to determine how the recently declassified summary of a 1996 FBI wiretap of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development included vitriolic language that was not found in a verbatim transcript of a recorded conversation.

...

According to the discredited summary, Holy Land officials referred to Israel as "the government of the demons" and to Jews as trying "to rob as much money as possible from the American taxpayers for the illegitimate excuse of protecting and preserving the chosen people of God."

One Muslim charity official supposedly told a colleague: "Even Jesus Christ had called the Jews and their high priests … the sons of snakes and scorpions."

None of those comments was contained in a 13-page verbatim transcript of the conversation recorded April 15, 1996, by the FBI. In response, defense lawyers demanded declassification of large portions of the government's documents in the case.

2. What political gain?
It seems that the President of Iran has suffered politcally as a result of many of his comments on the world stage.

6. But There Can Be No Question, Sir, Of The Accuracy Of These Statements
As they are reported by the Iranian government's official press agency. No enemy of Iran made them up, or mis-translated them, or any such thing.

And thought that sort of thing was common knowledge.

8. Seeing as how he says something similar at least once a week...
...I've got to wonder at what point people will get sick of starting new threads about his latest weekly dose of rhetoric?

11. Maybe when people stop posting threads claiming Israel is going to attack Iran?
Seems important to look at both the rhetoric coming from leaders in Iran and Israel to get a better understanding of why elements in those countries perceive one another the way they do.

17. Two wrongs don't make a right...
If you have a problem with people posting threads claiming Israel is going to attack Iran, then playing some lame tit for tat game isn't the way to deal with it...

12. I think I can answer that
Every time Ahmadinejad says something that is indicative about his desire to see an Israel free Middle East, or comments about Zionism or Jews or the Holocaust, quite a few folks try and justify his remarks. Posting a comment like this puts those people on the spot. (see the first post in this thread)

And why do you think the Iranian government's official press agency would do such a mean thing to the fellow?
