Palestinian drowns trying to save Israeli teenagers (08/21/06)
<snip>

"A 24-year-old Palestinian man died over the weekend trying to save four Israeli teenagers from drowning in waters just off a beach south of Tel Aviv, an Israeli newspaper has reported.

Ahed Tamimi, from Israeli-occupied east Jerusalem, was on the Rishon Le Tzion beach with his relatives when he heard four teenagers in the water cry for help, the Maariv daily reported Monday.

"He heard our cries for help and he dove into the water without hesitation," of the teenagers, Denis Mihayev, 15, told the newspaper.

"He swam towards me, grabbed my hand and pulled me forcefully back to shore," he said.

Tamimi then returned to the water to try and help the three others, but was caught up in a strong current and disappeared from view.

"He dove in to help my friends. I saw him battle against the current and in a few minutes, he disappeared," he said."

1. The War Hogs wouldn't want a story like this getting too much press.
Stories about our commonality, our shared compassion for one another and
simple acts of heroism are not what the war fueled by fear needs right now.

2. So this contradicts the idea that they are all "islamfascists", as
some posters here insist they are (or call those who support Palestinian human rights the same).

Maybe if Israel would just end the occupation, (I mean really end the occupation, not merely redraw a few lines here and there) they will find that they have very good neighbors.

3. If only we could keep politics and governments...
away from us and let us just be people. After all is said and done we are all just people.

4. I think the majority of civilians on both sides would happily make peace
if given the opportunity. The hatred comes from the government and extremists.

5. Tamimi is a hero
and I can't remember the last time I used that word. His was an entirely selfless act.

6. amongst many of the palestenains and israelis
selfless acts have always been found in the background...whether its been organ donations,(both ways), food and clothing (to the palestenians), hiding one from the others security forces, etc.....on the personal level, the palestenians and israelis get along quite well....but thats how it usually is.
