Israel makes violation counter-claim
ISRAEL said an overnight commando raid deep inside Lebanon overnight was in response to Hezbollah's violation of the UN-brokered truce deal which bans the transfer of weapons to the militia.

"Israel was acting because there was a violation of the resolution," foreign ministry spokesman Mark Regev said after the raid, the first serious incident since the deal came into force Monday.

Israel said it staged a commando operation near the eastern town of Baalbek to prevent cross-border arms smuggling from Syria and Iran to Hezbollah.

Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora condemned the raid, in which one Israeli officer was killed and two were wounded, as a "blatant violation" of the truce deal that ended a month of fighting in south Lebanon.
