Resolutions about peace activist stir Council controversy
Edited on Fri Sep-12-03 05:56 PM by Resistance
The proposal won -- not sure what will happen next though. I can't find any information because nobody is following the story at all.

It is infuriating to me how the media has entirely ignored this story since she was killed.

She was an American peace activist, who four eyewitnesses testify was intentionally murdered. We deserve to know what really happened.

The Middle East conflict boiled over at the City Council's first official meeting since the summer recess, as council members wrangled over two competing resolutions concerning the death of an American peace activist.

The activist, 23-year-old Rachel Corrie of Olympia, Wash., was run over and killed by an Israeli bulldozer March 16 while demonstrating on behalf of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

One resolution, supported by the council's progressive bloc, urged the U.S. government to investigate Corrie's death and endorsed a House of Representatives motion expressing the same intent.

In the end, the progressive proposal won by a slim 5-4 majority, as the argument noisily continued in the audience.

2. Her death was tragic.
Every death in that beleaguered land is a tragedy, and it should be investigated thoroughly.

3. I am just glad we have Democrats to call on
who understand the need for an 'even-handed approach' to the situation.
