Aksa Brigades threatens US, Europe
The Aksa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of Fatah, on Monday threatened to strike at US and European interests in response to international sanctions on the Palestinian Authority.

The threat, the first of its kind, came as PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas was scheduled to hold talks in Moscow with President Vladimir Putin on the severe financial crisis in the PA territories. Moreover, the threat by Abbas's Fatah party came as Palestinians marked the 58th anniversary of the nakba, or catastrophe (the secular anniversary of Israel's independence).

"We won't remain idle in the face of the siege imposed on the Palestinian people by Israel, the US and other countries," said a leaflet issued by the Aksa Martyrs Brigades in the Gaza Strip. "We will strike at the economic and civilian interests of these countries, here and abroad."

"Let the entire world know that we won't succumb in the face of the policy of blackmail, siege and starvation. In the past we did not capitulate in the face of the policy of assassinations, detentions and air raids."

1. Note that Hamas isn't threatening this.
Not, frankly, that I expect a lot of people to appreciate the difference.

3. true-but Hamas said no compromise on the right of return for all refugees
"Hamas, on the other hand, said in a statement marking Nakba Day that there would be no compromise on the right of return for all refugees. Hamas also emphasized the Palestinians' right to pursue the fight against Israel until the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital."

I would not read this as implying there is a non-terrorist Hamas.

4. You know, I'm incredibly sick of threats from people telling
others (generally us) that they're going to attack us for something. BUT while I feel very strongly about that I also understand that so much of what is going totally wrong in the Middle East is because the Palestinians (and the young people of all the Middle Eastern countries, i.e. Egypt, Syria, etc.) are finding they have been shut out of the world economy. The future is an absolute nothing, so having no future to look forward to, they have no qualms about taking a few westerners out and themselves as well. If and until we find a way to bring these people into the 21st century and the world economy, this shit will NEVER end.

Funny how a leaflet in Gaza becomes a headline in Israel which ends up being billboarded at DU in America.

Isn't modern communication marvelous.

5. A fake leaflet would start shootings
It's not that I think that this isn't from the Martyrs Brigade. Simple reason: they're in a marketplace of ideas and have decided to sell terrorism at a cheaper price than Hamas is willing to. Hamas isn't doing attacks itself and is conducting a political struggle. Aksa (sic), which is a Fatah offshoot, resorted to terrorism for street cred and has decided to up the ante in an attempt to get broader Islamic cred, which a lot of Palestinians would rather do without since they do NOT appreciate Osama taking up the Palestinian cause and making a hard sell (the Palestinian cause) harder.

To reply to the person who said there is no non-terrorist Hamas, if you really want to take the stance that educating children is terrorism, which I know Israel has (though usually citing specific issues not the education in and of itself), and if you want to take the stance that treating the sick and wounded at hospitals is terrorism, then yes, every single thing Hamas does, is terrorism.

Depends on what the meaning of "terror" is, and if it includes humanitarian acts.

6. Yawn
You mean like Baader Meinhof and the Red Army Fraction etc. did throughout the 60-70's...

There is no point, Europe will not react like the US.

7. Let me get this straight.
Americans and Europeans are being threatened because they won't provide additonal charity? Sounds reasonable.

9. Yeah
so glad that so many enlightened liberals here support these fruitcake palestinians who threaten the whole world and not a democratic state made up of people who have been oppressed for centuries. :eyes:
