British Council in Gaza torched in protest at Jericho operation
<snip>

"Palestinian militants set fire to the British Council offices in Gaza on Tuesday as part of protests over the Israel Defense Forces operation at a jail in the West Bank city of Jericho, for which Palestinian leaders held the U.S. and Britain responsible.

Television footage aired by the British media showed armed gunmen, some masked, entering the British Council compound and opening fire. A man could also be seen attacking the interior of the building with a wooden pole as a car burned nearby.

The gunmen and police exchanged fire near the center as troops tried to prevent hundreds of protesters from reaching the building.

Elsewhere in Gaza, militants stormed the building of a
U.S.-based educational organization, a witness said."

"Meanwhile, spokesman of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades militant group called on all American and British nationals to leave the Palestinian territories within two hours, to avoid being abducted and being exposed to other threats."

This is much better than boring old negotiations, and there is an election coming, it's time to spook the herd!

2. Yet another reason why the war on Iraq was wrong...
What reason would the Palestinians have to believe US and UK negotiation efforts are genuine? What they see is fellow Muslims being murdered by the hundreds by people telling them they are trying to broker peace in the middle east.

Why should the Palestinians EVER trust the UK or US again?

4. Blair is not very happy with this
Blair:"This country has been immensely generous with help given to people in the Palestinian Authority area....We have done everything we can to support them. But we need some help back. "

5. bliar = war criminal/lame duck/religious fanatic.
So, personally, I wouldn't quote him, but I can understand that some folks find
that sort of thing appealing, I guess it takes all sorts.

'PM attacked on Iraq 'God' remarks

Anti-war campaigners have criticised Tony Blair after he suggested his decision to go to war in Iraq would ultimately be judged by God.

The prime minister told ITV1's Parkinson chat show: "If you believe in God (the judgement) is made by God."

Reg Keys, whose son was killed in Iraq, said Mr Blair was "using God as a get-out for total strategic failure" and his comments were "abhorrent".

But Labour MP Stephen Pound praised Mr Blair for being "painfully honest".

accepting "substandard behaviour' and blaming someone else for it...(if some brits burnt down an embassy, etc in london....people here would find an excuse for it? or would they be called criminals?
