12. The gun Liability bill
Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 04:34 PM by thomas82
Would have passed if it wasn't riddled with poison anti gun admendments (AW ban). It is funny to think that the gun liability bill would have been passed to get the AW ban renewed. And even if the bill went through with the "poison admendments" they probably would have been stripped off in the house.

"It is funny to think that the gun liability bill would have been passed to get the AW ban renewed."
And even funnier to realize that the scummy gun lobby killed the bill....so much for those utterly bogus "the AWB is only cosmetic" or "the AWB doesn't do anything" LIES.

As an alternative: if "hi-cap" magazines are restricted in the winners state, I'll donate a one years membership to the NRA, the MMM or DU (take your pick).

13. If you say so.
"I don't even think the cops use them."

I don't think they make them for handguns.

"Why on earth would a hunter need one?"

Who says they do? I don't think it's legal to hunt with more than a 5 round magazine in most places anyway. Not to mention I doubt anyone wants to lug around a full 100 round drum all day.

"Or somebody defending their house?"

Well that would be their choice, I guess. I certainly wouldn't use one in the home defense role either for beating someone or with a gun.

"Excpect a hord of commie guerrillas?"

No more than I expect a horde of commie gorillas. What does that have to do with anything?

14. cmags suck
The Army had numerous problems with them. Not to many soldiers would trust their life to a cmag. They work fine in perfect environments (SWAT maybe) Dust and sand usually render them inop unless they are constantly cleaned (useless in IRAQ). They are a cool go out in the back yard and put 100rds into paper with, but thats it IMO. Still $250 is alot for a mag but its better than the $500 that the used to cost because of the ban.

11. It wouldn't matter
either way as they are plenty/thousands/millions of reg/hi cap mags available right now. The only thing the ban did was make some of them more expensive. M16 mags are $15 and AK mags are $10 all day long. The ten round mags are easily convertible to 15 rounds by changing the floor plate or dremiling out the indention in the mag body. As you see the magazine ban did nothing but waste alot of time, effort, jobs (house/senate) and money with no affect on crime or deaths. (awaiting MrBenchy rant about the AWB reducing crime by 80/90/180%)Don't take it seriously Mrbenchy as I don't.

24. As if
Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 10:16 PM by WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot
this rediculous law made normal capacity magazines hard to come by. I still buy, unused AK-47 magazines for $8 apiece. Unused, still in the wrapper military contract 30 round USGI M-16 magazines can be had for $20 all day long. All the AWB did was make them more expensive than they used to be. AK-47 mags used to be $2, 30 round USGI mags used to be $7.

The supply was never short, when there weer probably hundreds of millions in circulation already.

We can own rifles and shotguns, and what's more we can put silencers on anything we like...

We also enjoy the BBC, education for all to degree level and healthcare free at the point of use.

Given the choice, handguns or all that.... I'll take the latter.

23. Ok you have a point
Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 10:14 PM by thomas82
I work with a British Infantry officer and he told me about a few bad things in Britain.

He told me that you have to have a license to own a shotgun/rifle and that you are not allowed to have semi auto rifles. I think he told me semi auto 22s were ok but no AR15/mini 14 etc.

I do think the free heath care is good but what about the wait for treatment? surgery? He also told me the the BBC sucked and he preferred Cable TV. He also told me they paid a tax for each TV they owned (utter crap IMO).

If you are happy with the way things are in Britain wonderful, I am very happy for you. As for myself I am the typical rebellious American that does not like to have to much of my life controlled, especially in the area of gun ownership. As long as I am obeying the laws and not creating problems on my 5 acres of the earth, leave me alone.

I admit I am a bit jealous as a silencer would be good for my old ears.

"He told me that you have to have a license to own a shotgun/rifle and that you are not allowed to have semi auto rifles. I think he told me semi auto 22s were ok but no AR15/mini 14 etc."

Yes, you need a shotgun certificate or a firearms certificate. And no, semiautomatic .22s are illegal.

"I do think the free heath care is good but what about the wait for treatment? surgery?"

Well, it depends. If you're waiting for urgent surgery (brain tumour or other cancer) your wait is usually no more than a couple of days or weeks. The longest wait at the moment is 6 months (that's for elective, non-urgent surgery), if you are waiting more than 3 then they try to find a hospital that can fit you in sooner.

But the thing is, you get treated. You don't have to worry that you will be refused treatment because your insurance doesn't cover it.

"He also told me the the BBC sucked and he preferred Cable TV."

Personal preference, I guess. But most of the channels on Cable TV are murdoch owned.

"He also told me they paid a tax for each TV they owned (utter crap IMO)."

Nope. You pay a TV licence fee per household. £110 per year, which pays for:

    1. Terrestrial analogue TV channels with regional news and weather (commerical free)

      • BBC One
      • BBC Two

    2. Terrestrial analogue national radio stations (commercial free)

      • Radio One
      • Radio Two
      • Radio Three
      • Radio Four
      • Radio Five
      • World Service (in multiple languages)

    3. Terrestrial digital TV channels (commerical free)

      • BBC One
      • BBC Two
      • BBC Three
      • BBC Four
      • CBBC (kids)
      • CBeebies (little kids)
      • BBC News24
      • BBC Parliament
      • BBC Interactive - which includes multicasting live coverage of events such the World Cup, Wimbledon and The Olympics and information services

    4. National Digital Radio stations (commercial free)(available on DAB and online too)

      • Radio One
      • Radio Two
      • Radio Three
      • Radio Four
      • Radio Five
      • Six Music
      • BBC 7
      • Asian Network

    6. The UKTV network (available on digital terrestrial, cable and satellite)

      • UKHistory
      • UKStyle
      • UKPeople
      • UKDrama
      • UKDocumentaries
      • UKFood
      • UKGold
      • UKG2
      • Bright Ideas

    7. BBCi website
    8. BBC News Online website
    9. The BBC Orchestra
    10. The BBC Choirs
    11. BBC Learning (in association with The Open University)
    12. The BBC Monitoring Service (intelligence gathering service)
    13. The BBC Radiophonic Workshop
    14. BBC Technology (they pioneered the development of HDTV)
    15. BBC Research & Development

Not to mention the fact that the BBC produces some of the highest quality programming in the world (just look at some of the TV shows it's made over the years... you've probably seen quite a few of them and not even realised).

There's probably more I'm missing out on, but you get the idea.

Can you name one US broadcaster that offers all of that for less that £10/mo (~$18/mo)?
