New Fast and Furious docs released by White House
New Fast and Furious docs released by White House

WASHINGTON - Late Friday, the White House turned over new documents in the Congressional investigation into the ATF "Fast and Furious" gunwalking scandal.

The documents show extensive communications between then-ATF Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix office Bill Newell - who led Fast and Furious - and then-White House National Security Staffer Kevin O'Reilly. Emails indicate the two also spoke on the phone. Such detailed, direct communications between a local ATF manager in Phoenix and a White House national security staffer has raised interest among Congressional investigators looking into Fast and Furious. Newell has said he and O'Reilly are long time friends.

Among the documents produced: an email in which ATF's Newell sent the White House's O'Reilly an "arrow chart reflecting the ultimate destination of firearms we intercepted and/or where the guns ended up." The chart shows arrows leading from Arizona to destinations all over Mexico.

In response, O'Reilly wrote on Sept. 3, 2010 "The arrow chart is really interesting - and - no surprise - implies at least that different (Drug Trafficking Organizations) in Mexico have very different and geographically distinct networks in the US for acquiring guns. Did last year's TX effort develop a similar graphic?"

"Last years texas effort" ?

"Carters country" ring a bell, anyone?

This is about to get a lot uglier.

1. What a couple of guys, I'm glad to see O'Reilly is an EX
staffer and that Newell is EX ATF.

But, no, Carter's country doesn't ring a bell. Tell me more!

4. Carter's was fingered publicly
With a full court press of being the main conspirator in a massive gun smuggling operation . For maybe a day or two and then they called in the big dogs .

5. "We're working on something under the radar"
Anybody else recall that comment to the Brady bunch?

That could come back to haunt the WH.

Reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban was a major plank in the Party Platform and a stated goal of the Obama campaign. When the AG and Secretary of State floated trial balloons a couple years ago it became apparent the political climate was not favorable for the reinstatement of the expired ban.

So it is not a big leap to see the constant drumbeat on Mexican cartels being armed by US guns smuggled across as a an effort to change public opinion. It accounts for twisting 90% of guns Mexico asked to be traced into 90% of guns in Mexico traced to the US.

One of the latest twists is the ATF was chasing an FBI informant buying guns with DEA money. All three agencies are in the Justice Department and report to the same boss, Attorney General Eric Holder.

His repeated claims that he never heard of "Fast & Furious" ring hollow. There really needs to be a good investigation of why the agent in charge of the operation in Phoenix had back channel communications with the White House. He is completely circumventing normal chain of command by reporting the status of the operation directly to an NSA staffer. That the White house staffer, who had been briefing others, is suddenly transferred to Baghdad sure raises some eyebrows!

Who is the dope? Who is being duped?

7. Mexico wants everyone involved extradited to stand trial there.
Since Mexico is the aggreived party, in the interest of international relations, I say we should hand them over. No cushy federal prison, just the cold comfort of a Mexican prison for the next 5-15 years.

9. No OEFM, Holder didn't lie
he did some high fallutin wordsmithing. On September 7th 2011 FoxNews and AP covered a Holder press conference where he said "Holder has said repeatedly he was not aware of the operation as it was unfolding, and others have said no one at the Justice Department in Washington was informed of it". I guess that means if F&F had "unfolded" in some other manner, they would have known all about it! I suppose that means my bullshit meter needs to go back to the shop for another new needle.

The press conference and related comments are over at cleanupatf.org. Link: http://cleanupatf.org/forums/index.php?/topic/263-holder-denies-prior-knowledge-of-fast-and-furious
