Lawrence MA Triple Murder
“I shot until there were no more bullets, then I tried to shoot myself, but there were no more bullets in the gun,’’ Tejada allegedly told police. “I’ve said all I’m going to say. Let the law do what it has to.’’

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2011/09/07/man_killed_girlfriend_and_two_teenagers_because_he_tired_of_their_complaints_police_say/">Boston.com reports on the domestic triple murder which took place in Lawrence MA.

This is daily fare in the news, nothing new or different, really. The thing that caught my attention is the association between drinking and using drugs and owning guns. In this sad story, Mr. Tajeda was completely out of control, it sounded like he was totally wasted and in a raging fit committed murder.

The message is clear: drinking and drugging and guns don't mix. But how does this apply to the gun owners who like to relax with a few drinks or smoke a little dope once in a while? Isn't what they do just a more controlled and more acceptable example of what Tajeda did? If getting completely loaded to the point of losing your good judgment is unacceptable, wouldn't any degree of that be unacceptable as well? Hasn't it been shown that even small amounts of alcohol and other drugs diminish reflexes and judgment?

Gun owners who want to get high are irresponsible, that's my opinion? I realize it's a severe position, but we're talking about guns. It is not possible to be too careful or too responsible.

What's your opinion? Please leave a comment.

1. I think you wanted a period instead of a question mark --
"Gun owners who want to get high are irresponsible, that's my opinion?"

2. Your position has nothing to do with getting high.
Your position is, as has been made evident, that anyone who wants to own a gun is irresponsible. A position that is laughable at best.

Car owners who like to relax with a few drinks or smoke a little dope once in a while tend to cause problems too. Does that mean that car owners who like to have a few drinks are irresponsible, or does it mean that car owners who chose to use their cars while under the influence of those drinks are irresponsible?

Why isn't it your position merely that anyone who wants to get high is irresponsible, as people who are on drugs (depending on the drug of course) are for more likely to engage in behavior hazardous to themselves and/or others?

Oh, wait, could it be that you're trying to form your speciously reasoned opinion to fit an already pre-arrived at conclusion? Nah, that couldn't be it.

I have a green cross/green shield plan (in lieu of too-expensive health insurance), and I pay the deductible frequently.

19. Yeah really....LOL I get that alot.
Don't get me wrong I used to drink often on the companies dime...but never more than one or two shots or one or two beers, glass of wine here or there with dinner but that's it.

Never any drugs of any type...and I sure don't smoke.

22. I've been really drunk only 3 times in my life
I usually drink a couple on the infrequent occasions that I do, and I lay off when my nose gets numb. I usually just have a couple of beers while playing eucher.

Although next Saturday is my brother's bachelor party. The plan is to drink Manhattan dry, or so I've been led to understand.

I imagine this will be number 4...

But the times I was pretty drunk were in controlled settings... once in my college dorm by myself (last night and had to get rid of the beer in the fridge), once at home (I had a half bottle of whiskey, no work, and no kid, and figured "why not?") and once with an ex-girlfriend and her family at the Elks Lodge.

Of course, I then happily drove home in the minivan piloted by her drunk father, so maybe that wasn't such a good idea. But it was cold and dark, dammit! And I had a seatbelt that I think I used...

10. Not neccessarily. But being drunk or being high can make you stupid, and want to do stupid things.
That may seem like a god idea at the time.

9. "Isn't what they do just a more controlled and more acceptable example of what Tajeda did?"
Ya mean the drinking part, or the part where he shot his wife?

Either way, it is possibly alot more controlled, and more acceptable in many cases then being 'completely out of control' and 'totally wasted'.

"drinking and drugging and guns don't mix."

Agreed - to a point. People have to know their limitations. For many, a couple beers even while packing might not be an issue. For some, any drinking may make them batty, so having a gun in/at hand is dumb. As is doing drugs.

Change this to: "Gun owners who want to get stupid with guns are irresponsible"

and I agree.

11. What about car owners?
Are car owners who want to get high irresponsible, too?

Or could it be just car owners who want to get high while using cars are irresponsible? I think so.
