YORK SPRINGS, Pa. (AP) -- A woman has been shot to death while she and her husband were test-firing weapons outside a central Pennsylvania gun shop.

State police say the 61-year-old woman was shot Sunday afternoon at Miller's Munitions outside York Springs.

WHP-TV reports (http://bit.ly/ptgUQ6 ) that police believe the woman and her husband were at the rear of the building test-firing weapons when the gun the man was holding went off, striking her in the abdomen. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The shooting remains under investigation.

1. 'the gun the man was holding went off' - I would argue that it didn't 'go off'.
1. The trigger was pulled - someones finger pulled it
2. It was loaded
3. It was pointed at a person

Three rules broken. Two unfortunate accident victims - if you count the guy with the gun. His life will never be the same.

7. Assuming, of course, that it was an accident.
"Accidental shooting" makes a good excuse. There's a school of thought that says one of the reasons "accidental shooting deaths" have been declining for decades is because police are getting better at telling which ones are really accidents and which ones are murders.

8. There is always that. Giving them the benefit of presumed innocence.

2. I know of one range that requires you to wear a vest.

4. Someone forgot the 4 rules,,,
Always treat a firearm like it was loaded
Keep your finger off the trigger until on target and ready to fire
Never point a gun at something you are not willing to destroy
Be sure of your target and what's behind it

All it takes is for some dumbass to violate 2 of those rules and BANG, someone's life is changed forever and the antis have a new puddle of blood to play in.

It's worse than guys that have a midlife crisis and decide to get a motorcycle-it's fine to learn new things later in life, but don't presume that because you're 50 doesn't make you a ninja master at anything. Including motorcycles and firearms.

5. Word! People- If you choose to buy a gun, FFS take lessons and *learn* them!
If I were ever to buy another handgun, I would put my ego aside and take the noob class all over again.
Carrying a handgun after decades of not doing so isn't like taking up bicycling again.

6. Hell I carry frequently, and still take a basic class every 12-24 months...
and advanced classes as often as I can afford them.

9. Doesn't even look like a proper range
From the description and the satellite photo, literally looks like they just go out back and shoot into the woods.

We have ranges at the two main gun shops in town here, proper ranges.
