Pro-gun editorial in a liberal newspaper
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/opinion/2001870438_collin04.html

"The NRA, as much as Democrats hate to admit it, is a consumer-voter organization. Its power is not wielded by making campaign donations but by influencing millions at the ballot box."

1. Heh....
"Al Gore gets credit for most of the gun shyness on the part of Democrats. His gung-ho position on establishing a national registry blew a hole in his Southern support. Even campaign manager Donna Brazile called it "a big factor" in his defeat. You'd think Democrats would have learned a long time ago. Local hero Tom Foley, former speaker of the U.S. House, lost his 1994 re-election bid partially because of an unpopular stance on gun control. He wasn't the only one."

I guess Brazile is a tool of the scummy, corrupt gun industry, spreading a pantload for them...

2. Conservative bias, but a should-read article.
1. On lawsuit limitations I say bad analogy to:
"The same reasoning could just as readily be applied to suing Ford or GM for the behavior of hit-and-run drivers."

If cars were made to be stealthy and hidden, not designed for groceries but only to avoid other such cars and occasional falling branches, designed for "getting away with" hit-and-runs a new fun passtime, then the analogy might fit, EXCEPT that then I'd think Ford and GM WOULD be partially responsible.

2. I have to say, I never understood the Assault Weapons Ban Clinton wanted. Why did we protect the usually RW police, so they could shoot us in our foot, instead of letting the RW do it. And, why can't I design, build, and fire my own gun-design in America.

3. Loved the 20 mph analogy, wasn't in the article though. The Republican response would be to increase the fine.

5. I'd love to be able to build a
couple of sub-guns, but that asswipe raygun ended that for us. I like to point that out and the shrub sr import ban of 89 everytime I hear someone say only dems are anti freedom.

3. Revisionist history trundles on...
Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 09:12 AM by MrBenchley
The RKBA crowd was trrying to spin the NRA's thrashing into a "victory" here, and now right wing idiots are trying to do so on op-ed pages.

Funny....the only websites I can find pretending guns were a decisive factor in Al Gore's "defeat" (winning by 500,000 votes) are by the same right wing asswipes who also call Donna Brazile racist.

"The NRA, as much as Democrats hate to admit it, is a consumer-voter organization."
Yeah, and the "get away with murder" bill protected consumers in NO conceivable manner. It protected only a corrupt industry.

"It was designed solely to stop a flood of lawsuits blaming gun makers when armed criminals commit crimes. Feinstein's mischaracterization notwithstanding, Democrats were prepared to vote for the bill in large numbers."
Yeah....what a dirty trick that the NRA stopped them from doing so. (snicker)

By the way, roe...what makes this a liberal paper?
