2 shots accidentally fired (by customer & dealer) at Mt. Clemens gun show; 3 hurt
Two women and a 10-year-old girl were hurt when they were struck by fragments from a gun that was fired during a gun show at the Gibraltar Trade Center in Mt. Clemens this afternoon.

The three were treated at the scene.

A customer thought the gun, a semi-automatic handgun, was unloaded and accidentally fired the weapon. The owner took the gun back and inspected it, firing off a second shot, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office. The incident was reported to dispatch at 1:48 p.m.

The owner of the handgun, a 64-year-old man from Marysville, has been banned from any future gun shows at the center.

11. Might be a venue-related issue.
As I recall, those zip-tie situations are usually insisted on by the venue for insurance reasons. If for some reason the venue didn't insist on it, the show organizers might not have bothered.

7. Not that it makes a difference but customer was female
The Macomb County Sheriff says a female customer at the show accidentally fired a gun not realizing it was loaded.

15. Of course it doesn't make any difference!
The owner, a 64 year old MALE, had to be at least twice as stupid to assume a gun that had just fired was empty.

This was in a venue full of what we should be able to assume were professionals. No wonder people want to restrict our rights to carry in public.
Fools like this give them every reason to want to. If we can't police ourselves, someone else will!

10. This goes on the dealer, period.
Stupidity points for him:

1. Having a loaded gun available for sale.

2. Failing to unload it before handing it to a customer.

3. After her discharge showed that it was STILL LOADED, he manages to take it back and shoot it off AGAIN.

Stupidity points for the customer:

1. She didn't check the chamber.

2. She didn't keep her finger off the trigger.

Both of which are common mistakes for someone not familiar with firearms safety. She should have learned better, but the dealer was ten fold stupider. Hell, at the gun shop I go to, even though all the display pistols are kept unloaded all the time, the owner STILL checks the chamber and locks back the slide before handing one to a customer.

12. #3 is the real stunner. His only defense on that one is that there was some
previously undetected defect in the gun that caused it to fire without an action on his part. But I sure can't imagine what that was...

14. Exactly, everybody who picks up a weapon has an obligation to check the chamber, clip, mag, etc. nt

13. That's bizarre. Guns are checked to make sure they're unloaded at gun shows.
Ironically, even Concealed Carry is not permitted at the gun shows I go to.
