I think this illustrates things like the Brady Campaign's ratings of states (and how poorly said ratings correlate to

violent crime rates), as well as the stalwart defense of strict gun laws in locales with high-crime rates, such as

California, Chicago, or Baltimore. It might also explain the mindset of those that want to expand the reach of

the "terror watch lists" to include firearm purchases.
