Edited on Sat May-21-11 04:46 PM by Logical
I went in and the "take a number" device had 63 as the number one I got and they were serving 45!! My wait was only about 15 minutes.

They had at least 10 salesmen selling guns and they were selling a LOT of handguns.

Seems like Kansas is getting safer every day! 2011 is also heading to a record year for new CCW licenses.

8. yeah
but the rest of us are stocking up for the zombies. Besides, if the Pat Robertson crowd goes anywhere, it will be through the floor. Real Christians like BHO and family, let's just say no one will doubt his real religion.

25. My simple non denominational answer
Those not like Pat Robertson. Those who follow and live what Jesus preached in the Sermon on the Mount and other placed. There are those who argue that Jesus' church died in the second century, losing to the church of Paul. Either way, my post was a cheap shot at televangelists, Pat Robertson types, and the current speaker of the house.

32. Shows how fucked up that Jesus guy was
telling people to sell their coat for a sword, even if they had no food. Was that the same guy who said turn the other cheek and turn your swords into plowshares? Stay tuned for other excerpts from the Book of Contradictions.
Went to see the Book of Mormon a couple of days ago on B'way. Hilarious! Best musical I've ever seen.

34. Have to put it in the context of the time and place
Turn the other cheek, and if asked to carry something a mile carry it two etc had more to do with nonviolent resistance by setting up Roman soldiers for prosecution (for mistreatment of civilians). Had nothing to do with pacifism.
As for food, the apostles lived off the land.

4. Maybe they're not afarid.
Maybe they see that firearms ownership is spreading, and crime rates are falling, and that while there may not be a direct correlation, owning a firearm certainly doesn't seem to cause crime.

Maybe you could see this, if only you pulled your head out of the sand....

I'm becoming convinced that people who make that statement are trolling, because there is just too much discussion going on for that notion to survive scrutiny.

11. Assuming fear is the motive automatically rules out thoughful discussion
Edited on Sat May-21-11 06:36 PM by LibertyFox
So if you didn't post that to try to automatically marginalize people who purchase weapons, then why start off like that?

I'll concede I shouldn't have used the word trolling, but having lurked on these forums for awhile the only time I see someone starting off with that assumption is someone who is more interested in immediately putting RKBA on the defensive and scrambling to prove a negative.

39. Maybe ISSF is catching on like NASCAR and tennis
maybe handgun hunting is catching on in Kansas. Late tax return checks. Could be a number of reasons. Now if the line were at in a back alley near a crack house, then it might be cause for concern.

I think I could make a half assed case. Like I said before about the drug war, they typical bong owner contributes more to gun and gang violence than 99.9 percent of all American and Canadian gun owners combined.

36. More guns does not equal more crime ...
Edited on Sun May-22-11 01:01 PM by spin

US Violent Crime Rate source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_the_United_States

source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States

More guns equal more crime? Not in 2009, FBI crime report shows.

FBI's latest crime report, for the first half of 2009, shows America is a less violent place even though ownership of guns has surged. Deterrent effect may have a role, but others see no correlation. The oft-cited credo that more guns equal more crime is being tested by facts on the ground this year: Even as gun ownership has surged in the US in the past year, violent crime, including murder and robbery, has dropped steeply.

Add to that the fact that many experts had predicted higher crime rates as the US grinds through a difficult recession, and the discrepancy has advocates on both sides of the Second Amendment debate rushing to their ramparts.

After several years of crime rates holding relatively steady, the FBI is reporting that violent crimes – including gun crimes – dropped dramatically in the first six months of 2009, with murder down 10 percent across the US as a whole.

Concurrently, the FBI reports that gun sales – especially of assault-style rifles and handguns, two main targets of gun-control groups – are up at least 12 percent nationally since the election of President Obama, a dramatic run on guns prompted in part by so-far-unwarranted fears that Democrats in Congress and the White House will curtail gun rights and carve apart the Second Amendment.

Violent Crime Declined As Gun Sales Climbed in 2009
Thursday, September 16, 2010

***snip***

While violent crime was going down in 2009, guns sales were experiencing a record year. According to data from the FBI’s National Instant Background Check System (NICS), 2009 was the best year on record for gun sales.

According to the NICS figures, 14 million guns were sold in 2009, the biggest year since the system began recording data in 1998. The NICS figures are considered the most accurate measurement of gun sales because federal law requires that a NICS check be done prior to every firearm sale in America.

In fact, there were nearly 2 million more guns sold in the United States in 2009 than in 2008, the next best year for gun sales, when 12.7 million NICS checks were recorded.

The NCIS data do not capture all gun sales, however, as only federally licensed primary dealers are required to conduct them. Firearms sales between private citizens can still be done freely, without having to let the federal government know about it. This normally occurs at one of the nation’s many public gun shows, meaning that the firearms sales figures provided by NICS are actually lower than the true figures.
