Oklahoma CareerTech educators hope Fallin will veto gun bill
http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?subjectid=11&articleid=20110518_16_A1_CUTLIN232113

OKLAHOMA CITY - CareerTech leaders who want to stop a proposal to allow guns on their campuses are pinning their hopes on a veto by Gov. Mary Fallin.

<snip>

The proposal would allow concealed-weapons licensees to leave their guns inside locked cars on CareerTech campuses or to carry them to other areas with permission of the CareerTech superintendent - the same rules that apply to college campuses.

If the measure passes the Senate, CareerTech leaders say they will appeal to Fallin to veto it.

"I completely understand Second Amendment rights, and I completely agree with the right to bear arms, but this just doesn't make sense," said Phil Berkenbile, state director of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.

1. Pfft.
"state director of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education."

The second amendment is a restriction on government power, it would appear the director is an agent of the state.

If the second amendment covers carry - and the word "bear" would sure seem to fit that bill...

Then it would seem logical that theyre generally forbidden from preventing it in the first place.

Of course...seeing things for what they actually are and actually mean...is a quaint notion these days...

2. Take a look at her stance on guns.
"The Second Amendment means exactly what it says, and I will defend the right of every law-abiding citizen to own guns. Responsible gun ownership is a basic right, and I will never vote for legislation that abridges that right.

I am a member in good standing with the NRA." From http://www.ontheissues.org/House/Mary_Fallin_Gun_Control.htm

She has an "A" rating from the NRA.

4. So CCW is not an issue at colleges but Tech school students can't be trusted? Sounds elitist.
So a College student with a CCW is OK in OK but for some reason a Tech school student can't be trusted?

Perhaps someone can show us the shootings at Oklahoma colleges that have resulted from this "dangerous" policy as a good reason to bar it at Tech schools?

But somehow I think if there was even a single instance we'd have already heard all about it.

Another "there are guns and nothing happened" post to add to the list.
