Updated CCW map...
with the inclusion of the Show Me State as the latest state to join the ranks that extend the individual right to keep and bear arms, concealed or otherwise.

1. Mistake on your map
VT/AK should be separate colour!

2. We really need to eliminate...
that heartland sea of red and peach. Wisconsin, Kansas, and Nebraska have all come so close and will again. Iowa should be doable. Illinois is hopeless for the foreseeable future.

Rhode Island, California, and Delaware are doable in time. New York is doable, with NYC excluded, of course. Maryland is doubtful. MA, NJ, and HI are probably hopeless. Hawaii might as well be red.

The other issue to address state-by-state is reciprocity/recognition. There are still several right-to-carry states with no meaningful recognition of out-of-state permits and without non-resident permits.

5. Md - not over yet
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 02:45 PM by Romulus
With Giannetti's(D) intended vote against the AWB(killing it in committee), after he carefully considered all the viewpoints, it seems that legislators here might actually be taking notice of the political realities surrounding their tampering with the right to self defense.

Gianetti's statement on why he chose to vote against the AWB:
http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/bal-statement0227,0,6009803.story?coll=bal-local-headlines

For those who don't care to read it, his statement says that he was influenced in part over worries about the potential political fallout for Democrats from so-called "conservative districts" here in MD.

3. If you want to get technical
I think all of the blue states, except Vermont and Alaska of course, should be that brown color. As if you have a right when you're going to beg for the privilege of exercising it.

9. Colorado has a bill
in their legislature for VT carry. No idea on it's chances.

I hear the NH bill, if passed, won't take effect until Jan. 1, 2005. What's that all about?

11. I like that
I'm going to add captions and numbers to my new map.

2 Right-to-carry states
35 Privilege-offered states
9 Privilege-restricted states
4 Carry prohibited states

My hope for this year:
3 RTC (+NH)
36 PO (+KS, +NE, -NH)
9 PR
2 CP (-KS, -NE)

13. It's nice to see that Jim Crow has been eliminated in the south...
...as far as CCW is concerned.

Next I'd like to see IL (Chicago), NY (New York City),
WI (Milwaukee),and Washington D.C. join the 21st century and allow honest people of color to be able to CCW.

Meanwhile I'm glad that I live in a progressive state (MI) that allows a black man with no politcal conections to have the means to protect himself and his family.
