Showdown on S 1805 (S 659) begins tomorrow.
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 08:39 PM by D__S
A motion to invoke cloture has already been introduced.

Whether or not we have the 60 votes necessary remains to be seen (keep your fingers crossed). And, if we get that far; expect the anticipated AWB and "gunshow loophole" amendments to arise.

Coincidently... tomorrow also marks 200 days until the 94 ban sunsets.

Any bets that the ant-gun contingent will mention it?

"Unless we act now, in 200 days these lethal killing machines will once again flood the streets and jeopardize the lives of our children"...

1. The Cloture Vote will occur at 10:30 AM.
The Senate convenes at 9:30 AM tomorrow and will spend the hour before the vote on the motion to proceed to S. 1805, the Gun Liability bill. The time will be equally divided between Senators Craig and Reed.

8. Sen. DeW(h)ine...
was the ONLY Republican to vote against cloture.

This roll call vote is going to go into the campaign file.

2. My Senators
I've spoken to both my senators' offices repeatedly about S.659/S.1805 over the last 9 months. Sen. Voinovich (R) did eventually agree to co-sponsor S.659. Sen. DeW(h)ine -- one of the worst senators in the nation -- maintained for months that he had not even reviewed the bill, despite the fact that a version had passed the House and that S.659 was assigned to DeW(h)ine's committee. Finally, last month, DeW(h)ine acknowledged that he was "leaning against" S.659. Of course, this is after he decided to cosponsor S.1034, the extension of the scary-looking semi-automatic rifle ban and the bill to close the "gun-show loophole."

<rant on>
DeW(h)ine has got to go! I will normally agree with Republicans on a few issues and with Democrats on a few more issues. Senator DeW(h)ine is wrong on almost every issue! He takes the worst, most authoritarian positions of both parties.

He's up for re-election in 2006. If I have to, I will run against him myself. :mad:
<rant off>

4. I must say...
Larry Craig (in the debating on the vote for cloture) has been very impressive...

11. Larry Craig sounds about as stupid as Shrub...
His guns to cars analogy just makes no sense.

13. I thought
it was the anti-gun crowd that liked to compare guns to cars: "We register cars and license drivers; why should guns and gun owners be any different?"

I wasn't able to watch the debate, though, so I didn't hear Sen. Craig's analogy. Could anyone elaborate on the point he was making? I can only guess that he was making the point that you don't sue GM when a criminal kills someone with a Chevrolet.
