(Mexican President) Calderon Blames Violence on End of U.S. Gun Ban
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-05-10/calderon-blames-violence-on-end-of-u-s-gun-ban.html

Mexican President Felipe Calderon said drug-related violence is being fueled by illegal imports of U.S. guns that have surged since a ban on assault weapons ended in 2004.

“The violence in Mexico started when the assault weapons ban expired,” Calderon, 48, said today in an interview on the “Charlie Rose” program airing on PBS and Bloomberg Television.

Authorities have seized more than 100,000 weapons in the past four years, 85 percent of which came from the U.S., Calderon said during an interview earlier at Bloomberg’s headquarters in New York. Sixty percent of the guns seized were assault weapons, including AR-15 and AK-47 rifles, he added.

“All those weapons are not going to the good hands of the good American citizens -- all those weapons are going to the hands of the criminals,” Calderon said. “They are killing people.”

5. yes,, yes..
not GOP/NRA gunwalker bullshit.. just a really big fucking omission.

Calderon just conveniently forgets that HE declared WAR on his own people, in 2006.

Now he wants to blame the USA for the problems he created when he started his war??

That really is RICH!!!

6. Yeah, he knows the real source is the ATF....
And that our "gun ban" had absolutely nothing to do with it. But hey, you never let pesky things like "reality" get in your way!

7. my letter to the editor
Interesting article, although I do think the president is misinformed or dishonest. I believe Wikileaks before I believe him, and some of the latest dumps on the subject tells a different story. Most of the weapons used by the drug cartels are fully automatic (machine guns) and crew serviced weapons (heavy machine guns and rocket launchers etc) through the southern border, their own military and abroad. Weapons that can not be found at any gun shop or show in the United States. They afford these weapons from the profits of drug trade. Same with the inner city gangs in the US. Before crack and big drug profits, street gangs used switchblades and tire chains not pistols. That was in my lifetime. Same with the Mob before the 18th amendment.
If President Calderon wants to blame us for his inability to enforce their gun laws or their own corruption fine. What ever it takes to keep the oligarchs happy and most Mexicans desperate. No, I am not a "shill" for the NRA or even conservative. Just a hick from Wyoming who has a good BS meter.
As for American pot heads and conservative drug warriors alike, blaming some farmer in Montana, a target shooter in Vermont, or the NRA for the violence in Mexico and our cities, they need to look and the mirror and the facts.

10. I'd say drug related violence is being fueled by the illegal import
of marijuana and cocaine to the United States. End the war on (some) drugs and watch how fast the violence drops.
