2. I think you meant "homeland defense rifles",
assualt rifles are fully automatic and civilian ownership of new full automatics have been banned since 1986. got to thank that great 2nd ammendment supporter "the gipper" for that one. who says dems have the monopoly on gun control?

7. Thank the Gipper, and Daddy Bush too
After the Gipper supported the ban on new automatics in 1986, we had Daddy Bush sign an executive order banning imports of semi-automatic "assault weapons."

Strangely, for all Baby Bush was supposed to be in the NRA's pocket, he has not acted to reverse any of Daddy Bush's or Clinton's anti-gun orders, either.

Neither party is our friend on the national level.

We have not had a truly pro-2nd Amendment president in my political memory. I'll be 34 next month.

3. The most interesting quote from the article is:
"As soon as you threaten to ban something, the first questions are, 'Where can I get it?' and 'How much does it cost?' " he said.

How many times has the human nature factor come into play on this board when control issues are discussed? It looks as though the thoughts of we RKBA fanatics are being proven true.

I rest my case.

4. When prohibition was instituted...
how many people ran out and stocked their liquor cabinets before it actually took effect?

Same thing happened with the 94 ban; in order to meet the demand, manufactures began cranking out even more AW's and magazines before the ban went into effect.

Fortunately, it seems like firearms manufacturing is one of the few things that isn't being outsourced overseas these days.

5. I thought about it, too

but really can't justify the expense right now, especially with an April honeymoon coming up and the recent purchase of a touring kayak with all the related trinkets.

I am comfortable with my present long-term acquisition plans: Benelli Nova SP (that can be used for deer hunting here in "shotgun only" central MD), and a "vote from the rooftops" Black Helicopter .308.

6. "automatic assault rifles"
Polls show a solid majority of Marylanders favor adding assault rifles to the state's existing prohibition on the sale of assault pistols, particularly because a federal ban on automatic assault rifles expires in September. A survey this month by Gonzales Research of Annapolis found that 74 percent of 818 Maryland registered voters supported banning "military-style semiautomatic assault weapons."
I like how the article calls them "automatic assault rifles" in the same article that it talks about how they are really semi-automatics.

Does the author have a blatant anti-gun agenda, or is he is simply incompetent? Perhaps both.

And I guarantee I could get a different poll result by phrasing the question in a different way.
