Mother, 2 daughters set afire on West Side
Chicago police on Tuesday were holding a man suspected of setting ablaze a mother and two daughters in their West Side apartment.

Court records show the woman had obtained an order of protection last December against a 45-year-old Chicago man with whom she had once lived.

The city wouldn't protect the mother and kids, and the city would not permit the mother to own the tools to protect herself and the kids.

1. Same thing happened here in SE VA last week...
"estranged husband" had a court issued restraining order to stay away from his wife and daughter.

Fat lot of good that did, he went over to where they were sleeping, lit the house on fire, and killed both.

Only bit of justice in this entire story is, he pretty much immolated himself and died.

VA is a CCW state, so I guess the woman's fault was not properly arming herself, moving, whatever. Her main fault was in trusting in the effectiveness as a deterrent of a piece of paper issued by an indifferent court.

3. You hit it right on the head
"trusting in the effectiveness as a deterrent of a piece of paper issued by an indifferent court." Wonder how many people have died thinking the courts would protect them? Why I take the responsibility to protect myself and family.

2. Ban restraining orders, they are dangerous!
Not that a gun would have helped, but its alot more useful than a piece of paper.

4. Locking
I registered for the article and found, much to my surprise, that there is no mention that she ever expressed desire to own a weapon. I realize that Chicago bans handguns but lets not foist our agenda, however worthwhile, on the dead.
