http://media.www.nicsentinel.com/media/storage/paper1128/news/2011/04/18/News/Senate.Rejects.Gun.Bill-3993968.shtmlThe Idaho State Senate Affairs Committee voted down the House bill that would have revoked public colleges' ability to determine their firearms policies. NIC, along with law enforcement and the State Board of Education, opposed the bill.
"The bill's sponsor did not consult or discuss the bill with the Idaho colleges and university, so there was a very serious effort by the Idaho institutions to oppose it," said John Martin, VP for community relations.
The reason it failed may be due to finances. Boise State University would no longer have been able to host the Elton John concert or other events like the NCAA men's basketball tournament, which specifically states in its requirements that no firearms be permitted. This would have resulted in huge losses in revenue, school officials said.
