Manhattan jury finds man who had loaded gun in his car not guilty
Jurors today shot down the DA’s hunt for a Florida man, and acquitted him on a felony rap for coming into New York packing heat.

After a mere 30 minutes of deliberations, the foreman said ``not guilt,’’ as Jonathan Ryan‘s knees buckled and he broke down in tears, hugging defense lawyer Mark Bederow.

The 29-year-old had been indicted for criminal weapons possession and he admittedly motored into Manhattan on Feb. 21, 2010, with a 9mm pistol stored in his truck’s glove compartment

Interesting.

2. Interesting
+1 to the jury for being intelligent about this. -1 to Jonathan for not knowing where his weapon was and not paying attention to the laws of the location he was driving in. (Ok, -2).

The language in the article isn't very professional. Using the term "heat" instead of "pistol"?

5. DA may not have had much of a choice in "Bloomieville"
He might have instructions to prosecute anything vaguely gun elated and make it as hi profile as he can.

In other circumstances they might have checked for the guy for wants and warrants, see if he holds a FL CCW permit, and let him go with a warning if everything checks out OK.

7. How did the cops happen on his gun when it was in the glove box?
They searched his car for making a wrong turn? I'd sue everyone concerned, from the mayor down.

8. Probably asked to see his registration and insurance.
Stored in glove box along with the gun. When he opens the glove box they see the gun. Eye of the law commits no trespass. Once they see it they can arrest.

9. I understand from a Florida police officer that NYC cops are very anti-gun ...
unlike the police in Florida who are used to honest citizens with loaded firearms in their cars.
