1. Unrec for bullshit description.

This is the Tyler Texas courthouse shooting. David Arroyo does not die. Mark Allen Wilson, a bystander, engaged the shooter with a .45 caliber pistol.

Unfortunately Arroyo was wearing a bulletproof vest and a flak jacket. But he does distract the shooter, long enough for SWAT to arrive, forcing him to flee, at the cost of Wilson's own life.

Edit: It's also a MAK-90, not an AK-47.

18. There are huge mechanical differences between an AK and a MAK.
Edited on Sun Feb-13-11 08:40 AM by Callisto32
See if you can figure out what they are.

2. The AK-47 has gotten a bum rap.
It's clearly for hunting, fishing, and hanging curtains.

Guys like the shooter in the video just need an NRA approved course to teach them proper usage.

I can provide links to lots of sites created by Ayn Rand devotees for confirmation, inverse reinforcement, and Amway products.

25. Actually, with the proper legal magazines for the purpose...
...AK-pattern and similar rifles are fine for hunting small to meduim size game at short to medium ranges.

I can't think of how they might be useful for hanging curtains, but I'm sure you can expound on that, amIrite?

32. Here's mine in NC-legal hunting configuration:

That's basically a 5-shot .30-30, and with 154-grain softpoints would make a decent short-range brush gun. Most gun owners don't hunt, though, so hunting is irrelevant for most of us.

4. Lesson 1: Handguns are only for short-range work
Lesson 2: If you know what you are doing, you can maybe use them for medium-range work. But know before you try.

6. Happened 6 years ago in Tyler tecas. Shooter was David Arroyo
It was a MAK-90... a semiautomatic rifle of intermediate caliber.
Not an AK47 - fully atomatic (assault) rifle.

A private citizen with a license to carry a firearm actually attempted to intervene. He actually sucessfully shot arroyo and would have ended arroyo's spree... but arroyo was wearing a bulletproof vest. :( I think a police sniper ended the spree on the freeway or something.

12. Most civilian and hunting rifles are simply "modified" military rifles of that era.
it'a alwas been this way. Basically, the firearm actions are the same aside from the fire group.
Military rifles are full auto... civilian rifles are modified to be semiauto.

Functionally, there is pretty much no difference from modern hunting rifles and modern military assault rifles.

7. and in boston at least 7 shootings with AK 47s

http://www.boston.com/yourtown/news/jamaica_plain/2010/10/killer_in_roxbury_shooting_use.html

The woman was fatally shot and the wounded owner stumbled into nearby restaurant asking for help around 3 p.m. on Saturday. The law enforcement officials said today that the shooter used an AK-47 assault rifle during the attack. In 2009, AK-47 assault rifles were used in at least seven shootings in Boston.

He's a gun owner just like us but he supports reasonable restrictions
Empathy: “I’m a gun owner and I support this common sense gun law.” KKK and Neo-NAZIs own guns and would support a ban on guns in the inner city so that minorities couldn’t own guns. The Brady’s themselves own guns, yet are willing to ban others from owning guns. This is another deceptive method to get you to support their Agenda. They want you to feel they are on your side, so you can either back off or aid them.

care to explain? In the past I have responded to your wacky conspiracy theories in kind. I could question weather you are a FR troll, but I won't. I could accuse you of the typical Karl Rove tactic of pointing fingers at anyone that does what you do. I could also talk about psychological term of projection. But I won't.

23. Rifles are hardly ever used in crime.
Check the FBI UCR statistics. All rifles, let alone assault rifles, are used fewer times each year to kill people than hands and feet are.

Is this a gun you wish to confiscate and ban future sales?

21. The officer on the hood
has some huge ones. I cant say for sure what I would or wouldnt do since Ive never been in that situation, but I doubt that would have been me. Hopefully Im never put into a situation where I have to make that kind of decision either!

Were any of the officers hit? Were there any officer fatalities? The video said they were "mowed down" but several look like they were simply shot at and fell, then got back up.

Also I saw a poster mention he was wearing a vest AND flak jacket. That would have stopped a shot from the AR correct?

Its a good thing the officer had a rifle. I know there is a SWAT team in one of the twin cities here, but response time isnt good, and most police dont have a patrol rifle in the car. The cost of the rifle, then training on top of it is beyond what many departments can handle. I think every car has a shotgun though. That could have been very useful in this situation.

26. Yep, Arroyo took multiple hits from weapons as powerful as his MAK-90.
He also took bullets from Wilson's .45, and the handguns of the officers by the front door of the courthouse (likely 9mm).

3 officers were injured, none killed. Fatalities included Mark Allen Wilson, a bystander that shot at arroyo and saved the boy. Arroyo Sr. (the shooter), and his wife (shot by Arroyo Sr.)

It was not an "assault rifle".

It was not "automatic fire".

The police have access to the same and higher levels of firepower. As demonstrated.

Don't people know that's when you have to tackle the guy? This works 100% of the time according to pending legislation. This is why we want to limit magazines for everyone so the good guys can tackle the bad guys when they re-load.

EDIT: I spelt stuf bad...
