National gun debate zeroes in on Wisconsin
The attempted assassination of Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords (D-Arizona) earlier this month has led to a renewed interest in gun control legislation.

Nationally, the debate has centered on limiting the number of bullets in magazines and changing restrictions on buying guns. In Wisconsin, however, the legislature is likely going to take a different path.

Twice during former governor Jim Doyle’s time in office, the state legislature passed concealed carry legislation only to have it vetoed. When Republicans took control of the Governor’s Mansion along with both houses of the legislature in the November elections, passage of a concealed carry law became widely expected.

The tragedy in Tucson has not changed that according to State Representative Bill Kramer, a Republican whose district includes Carroll University. He said it is likely the legislature will develop a permitting process for concealed carry. He added the bill would likely come up in fall, after the legislature has completed work on the state budget

“Gun control laws are good at taking guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens,” said Kramer, a supporter of concealed carry legislation.

--snip--

Like Clark, Annette Olson, a co-founder of Uninfringed Liberty, part of the Wisconsin Patriot Coalition believes the current laws are unconstitutional.

“The right to self-defense is given to us by God,” said Olson. “No man should take it away.”

Both Clark and Olson feel no legislative action could have prevented the tragedy in Tucson.

“Criminals do not obey laws,” said Clark. “I do believe that the best we can do as a society is enable law-abiding citizens to posses the tools they need to defend themselves against a mentally disturbed individual or a criminal who would intend them harm.”

14. You can't actually be that dense or have such poor reading and comprehension skills

Or are you just being a contrarian for the fun of it?

The post referred to the right to self defense, no one, besides you of course, suggested that God gave us guns. The fact that guns are the most effective means to defend yourself, family and home is as coincidental as the computer you are using is coincidental to freedom of speech. It's just the most current useful tool.

But the right to defend yourself was considered a pre existing right by the founders.

Whether you believe in God, nature or nothing at all, self preservation is a pre existing right that no one can take away. The general interpretation of the 2nd is that it, like the other amendments in the BoR, places restrictions on the government from infringing on those rights. Just like the rights enshrined in the 1st amendment.

15. God or nature gave man the right to bear arms simply by allowing the physics and chemistry that
Makes it possible. The problem is you don't understand what this means. It means that in a world of no oppression and where humans don't subject other humans to regulation and control the ability to own and carry a firearm would not be hindered. Government does not grant the RKBA and can only oppress it and is instructed not to by the 2A. Just like drinking water out of a natural spring is a natural right until someone (government) forbids you from doing so. The 2nd amendment exists so that no wannabe authoritarian who thinks he/she is tEH bossZ will ever be able to disarm me of any of my firearms.

17. "'The right to self-defense is given to us by God,' said Olson." She didn't say "the right to guns."
Being an atheist, I would disagree with that assertion, but that's beside the point.

Honestly, you'd utterly fail the Turing Test (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test).

Is that all you ever do?

8. Welcome to Illinois Gun Control Fans - the only place to be "safe"
By the end of the year Illinois will be the only state with no concealed or open carry laws. Since you all seem to think the blood will run in the streets, the only "logical" thing to do is move here soon. You can find a nice apartment or home in Chicago, that also offers you an assault weapons ban and a city and county government that ignores Supreme Court decisions it doesn't like, including Heller and McDonald, and settle down. Of course our unemployment is very high and they just raised the state income tax by 66% last month.

But hey, it's worth it to live, work and raise your family in a gun free utopia. I would suggest that the best bargains for housing are in Englewood and Chatham. There are families there very motivated to sell and move somewhere else.

Welcome and be sure and bring your checkbooks with you. Street parking is now $5 an hour.

10. Heck, for another $50 you can buy your own alderman.
Englewood and Chatham are two of the neighborhoods that suffer from the high rates of gangviolence.

They regularly have "take back the night" marches led by "Flaky" Pfleger but then when the cops ask them for the names of gang members in their neighborhood, everybody disappears and Pfleger shouts "police harassment".

But at least on paper it's a gun free utopia.
