A gun law to end all gun laws?
Would anyone on either side of the firearms issue be interested in talking about ending the debate forever?

Like working out a compromise of legislation, that has as an element something along the lines of "congress shall make no further law reguarding firearms, directly or indirectly" at the end of the legislation.

I'm interested in responses from both sides on this.

Pro-gunners want an end to thier "culture" being under attack, and security in eliminating any erosion of rights, real or percieved.

Anti-gunners want more limitations, and regulation.

What kind of a compromise can be had here, if any?

This could be on a state or federal level.

Have at it, but do try to be nice.

1. compromise? None
I will not compromise.
I want to see the Gun Control Act of 1968, the National Firearms Act of 1934, gun bans, licensing scams, registering scams, and carry and conceal scams all completely 100% repealed.

Gun control is pro-crime and anti-people the very same way that globalization is pro-poverty, anti-environment, anti-people, and pro-crime.

8. And With So Many People...
...agreeing with lcordero's no-compromise position, we'll never make any progress.

When one side won't budge, there can never be any agreement.

9. Of course
Only a tiny percentage of voters in the country think all gun control laws ought to be jettisoned...and the vast majority want more gun control.

18. Is that ALL they do?
http://www.nizkor.org/objectives.html

Seems like they're keeping an eye on the sort of filth who these days clog the aisles of gun shows and lurk under the "gun rights" sheet.

19. They are primarily a Holocaust education site
But the Fallacy Tutorial was not written by them and is just provided as a resource to debunk logical fallacies that so often pervades the online world.

Oh and that's another Red Herring.

17. The problem is ...
That to some there will never be enough gun control laws. The idea of "compromise" is used to make the pro RKBA crowd seem unreasonable. Name a law in the last twenty years the has reduced the restrictions on firearms??? Recently we had the Brady law. Next the AWB. Now there are proposals to renew and strengthen the AWB. All of these laws represent further restrictions on firearms. When was the last time gun control advocates were willing to compromise in reducing the restrictions on firearms?? I for one, am tired of compromising, only to be asked later to give up even more.

"When one side won't budge, there can never be any agreement."

Are gun control advocates willing to compromise in the favor of pro RKBA advocates???

3. Congress preventing itself
from legislating? Nice idea, but it would kill off an issue both sides can demagogue to death so some sheep will vote for them.

I think the whole idea of gun laws is way over blown anyway, as having gun laws don't seem to have a whole lot of effect on crime.

Those congress critters have to at least look like they are doing something useful.

The embolded portion of the quote is on the money.

I disagree with the former portion of the thought. Any encroachment on our freedoms is far too much, therefore unacceptable.

6. How would this be immune to a repeal clause in the next bill?
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 01:16 PM by MrSandman
"congress shall make no further law reguarding firearms, directly or indirectly"

Thus:

"Be it enacted...regardless of previous laws to the contrary..."

N.B.: I realize any law probably would not use such plain language.
