One Mayor Gets It

The mayor of Connecticut's largest city has gotten the message.

So why in the world can't Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly?

Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch says The Post's call for police departments to stop buying Glock sidearms until the company stops general sales of 30-round magazines -- like the one used in the Tucson massacre -- is "an excellent idea."

Indeed, he said, he's already spoken to his own chief of police about making it happen.

this is the biggest stupidity i have seen so far. You don't have to be pro-gun to think realize this. First off, police sales of handguns only acct for 10% of national sales- so there is no reason why these manufacturers are goin to piss of 90% of their customers to satisfy 10%. Second, these departments HAVE TO BUY THEIR WEAPONS FROM SOMEWHERE, which gives these companies the upper hand. the handgun market in the U.S. is driven by the civilian consumer.

This would be like Kuwait boycotting general electric- its not really going to affect them

1. Quick, buy as many 30 magazines as possible...
If they get banned you can sell them at gun shows for a hefty profit!

3. *nod* It's not like glock is the sole source of such magazines.
And talk about unintended consequences.. when a cop gets killed because another gun jammed, there'll be hell to pay.

4. Why would police need extended magazines?
I thought they were only for "killing a lot of people quickly"?

Aren't the police there to protect us?

:sarcasm: :banghead:

The mayor is an idiot.

5. Christ... talk about grasping at gun control straws.
Fine... two can play that game.

If Glock caves in (which I highly doubt they will), then it would be a relatively simple matter to organize a counter boycott by civilian gun owners
expressing displeasure at Glocks unwise decision.

Lets see Finch and Bloomberg stuff that in their hi-cap mags and smoke it.

6. Glock cares more about the tiny police force market or the US civilian market that buys
4.5 of the 8 million manufactured firearms in the world. I bet glock makes more off just selling 30 rounders to civilians than what they make off all gun sales to police depatments in the US. If Glock caves in I bet we can setup a Glock boycott without any trouble.
