MOST TERRIFYING GUN IN THE WORLD SEIZED
THE first fully automatic handgun to surface in the UK - capable of firing 1,100 rounds a minute - has been seized in a police raid.

Oh god could this be the weapon of choice by Godzilla?

does that still make it less terrifying than fully automatic rifles, or does it have one honking big ass clip?

3. Hmm 1100 rounds per minute and a 19 rnd mag???
Lets do some math here.
1100/ 60 = 18.33333 rounds per second

<sarcasm>This seems like it would be a VERY effective weapon.<sarcasm>
You can empty the magazine in about 1 second, then you have to reload!
Sounds more like a good way to waste ammunition.

5. I once had a sear break on a S&W semi auto pistol
Needless to say, it went full auto. I didn't have time to release the trigger before it emptied - but with a broken sear, that wouldn't have mattered - it would have emptied itself anyway.

The rangemaster almost crapped his pants. I think I did.

Anyway, even in 9mm, the thing was almost uncontrolable. Without a foregrip - or even with one, full auto handguns are virtually uncontrolable. Seems like a waste of time and money to me. Unless you're looking to kill several people in a steel lined room and rely on richtochets to do the job.

"If it was fired on the streets of London by someone unused to its immense firing capability, there could be a massacre.

Didn't this guy ever hear of muzzle jump or climb as it is often called? After the first couple of rounds, the shooter would just be hitting the sky. Damn recoil anyway.

1,000,000 caseless rounds of what looks like 30 cal, proprietary can't be very cheap. I bet the radar return on a cloud of lead in the air would freak out some ATC guys, tho.

35. Vehicle-mounted weapons system.
Agreed, I can't see many practical stationary applications, but on a helicopter or Humvee? Devastating, especially as a mobile anti-missile defense (just send up a wall of bullets).

Granted, a million rounds a minute might not ever be used, but it's scalable and operates with no moving parts and very low power consumption (equivalent to a few flashlight batteries).

39. ADA? Maybe...
but just remember, what goes up must come down. Point defense weapons systems like the phalanx destroy incoming missiles with kinetic energy rounds like bullets at very close ranges.

I can just see an army employing this metal storm thingie to defend a base camp, where an incoming missile is basically coming straight down. So, you throw up 1,000,000 bullets over your tent city where all your soldiers are sleeping....and then add the fragmented missile and you have one hell of a "metal storm" on your hands.

Me, I'd rather rely on Patriot (PAC-3) or THAAD, where the engagement of incoming missiles takes place well down range.

Hand us another laugh. Read what I posted.

Re-read the original article... "MOST TERRIFYING GUN IN THE WORLD SEIZED"... "Monster of a weapon"... "If it was fired on the streets of London by someone unused to its immense firing capability, there could be a massacre"... "It would probably be the ultimate in gun status-symbols"... "It's extremely worrying that such a weapon is here. I can't stress enough just how dangerous this gun is".

Is this credible and unbiased journalism? Nahhhh, just something to scare the sorry sods and sheeple into believing there's a gun problem.

The Mirror could have done a dry and cut article about the facts of the case, but they didn't... that's the laugh.

FWIW, I trust British journalism only slightly more so than I trust anything from the former Soviet Union or Russia.

"Callous idiots"? "Gun fetish"? "Civilian hands"?... Where do you come up with these things?

57. I especially liked this part
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 11:45 PM by WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot
"It is not issued to any agencies in the UK and is believed to have been imported from the US."

And then goes on to say

"SAS officers use the gun in combat with a 19-round magazine. Israeli security forces and Germany's GSG-9 anti-terror unit also carry it."

Is Scotland no longer part of the UK? :P So an agency next door to Scotland has them, but this one must have come from the US. According to the article they have been banned from US importation for 18 years, but this one came from the US. Let us not also forget that the Glock 18 was introduced in 1986, how many made it to the US ahead of the ban is anyone's guess, but they would still be a registered Class III NFA firearm even if they made it here before the ban.

Other great snippets...

"The report said the Glock can fire "armour-piercing ammunition". "

Yeah, and so can any other firearm in a caliber for which AP ammunition has been made.

"The ultra-light, Austrian-made gun"...

No lighter than any other polymer framed pistol.

"It has a compensation device to keep it straight during firing."

so it is really a Glock 18C, which Glock itself discontinued because of the compensator's location blackening or blowing the front sight blade off. Ever try to hit anything without a front sight on a pistol? You'd do more damage by throwing the pistol at your target. According to the Glock FAQ, only about 7 Glock 18C's were ever made. http://www.glockfaq.com/rare.htm#g18c

"British armed police use the semi-automatic Glock 17, also a favourite with criminals."

And the difference between a Glock 17 and Glock 18 (for all intents and purposes) is a selector switch! That switch which basically turns a mild mannered Glock 17 into a Glock 18 which will burp out 19 rounds in a second. Oh, the Glock 18C would have a barrel that is one inch longer, scary!

60. My favorite quote from the article...
..."Why even a criminal would want to own such a gun is beyond me".

Maybe they think they have more thoughtful criminals in England, ones whose thought process goes like this:

"I 'could' use this gun that someone smuggled into the country, but it wouldn't really be fair or kind for me to do that. Ta-ta, cheerio, off to tea".

62. Interesting... Its the Glock 18
From the article: It is a Glock 18, banned from sale in the US and described as a "monster of a weapon" that fires bullets with the intensity of a high- pressure water hose.

A Met firearms expert said: "It's extremely worrying that such a weapon is here. I can't stress enough just how dangerous this gun is.

The report said the Glock can fire "armour-piercing ammunition". It has a compensation device to keep it straight during firing.

America banned its import in 1986. US arms expert Walt Rauch said: "Shooting the G18 full-auto is just like turning on a high-pressure hose,"

Now from the Glock website: http://www.glock.com/g18.htm The law enforcement and military issue GLOCK 18 select-fire machine pistol is virtually identical to the full-size GLOCK 17, but with the addition of a selector switch on the left rear of the slide that allows fully automatic fire.

So it looks to me like this gun is way too dangerous for me, but Barney Fife can pick one up. Remember those cops in New York that shoved a broken broom stick up some guys ass while interigating him??? They can get one of these MONSTERS. This guy can can get one http://www.thewmurchannel.com/news/1803411/detail.html Lets just pray he shoots his wife with his Glock model 17 and not the model 18 for fucks sake.

Ohh and speaking of New York, i found some dangerous glock 18 mags for sale with only a quick click of the mouse. http://gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=15248553 But you need to show paperwork proving that you are a supercitizen who holds more rights than the rest of us pion citizens. Man i think i might just become a police officer so i can have all these superpower rights to firearms that the rest of us dont have. The assault weapons ban??? Not if i was a supercitizen
