NBC: 31 shots fired in Tucson rampage, investigators say
Shell casings recovered at the scene of Saturday's mass shooting in Arizona confirmed the gunman fired 31 times using a semiautomatic pistol, investigators told NBC News on Tuesday.

-----

Investigators told NBC News that Loughner had a 30-round magazine on his Glock-19, plus one round in the chamber, for a total of 31 rounds in the weapon. Of the 31 rounds, a least 20 struck those outside the Tucson supermarket. Some victims were struck by more than one round.

It was not clear whether Loughner was able to put the second magazine into the Glock, investigators said. An examination of the second magazine showed that its spring was defective, so it would not have functioned properly, NBC News reported.

2. No it is not - it is merely a reflection on the guy with the gun
I just figure this nutcase may not have even tested the mag - or the gun even for that matter.

BTW the 30+ round mags are known to have this issue.

3. The oversize pistol magazines are problematic
They have a tendency to cause problems and a trained user can swap out the standard magazine faster and more reliably in terms of sustained fire

Part of me wants to know if he even test fired the pistol, another part just wants him to burn slowly...

6. +1 on everything you said

I never had a problem with the regular Glock mags that come with the guns or with additional mags purchased in same capacity except for mags that came with a Glock 34 (10 rounders cause I bought gun new during the ban) that I had to keep loaded a couple of weeks to break in the springs. The gun was having occasional jams till I did that.

5. those cheap junky 20-30 round mags aren't reliable
for the most part...no one would bet their life on one, but it appears some ass will take a life with one.

8. Most standard magazines are 14-17 these days, unless you live in CA
The oversize ones are novelty items
