Armed Robbery of Iraq Vet & Family near I95 ends in Suspect Shot
Edited on Sun Jun-06-10 07:31 PM by RamboLiberal
The incident all started Thursday night around midnight when the Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in reference to an attempted armed robbery and shooting near the intersection of McLeod Road and Interstate 95.

When deputies arrived, they found three victims, a man who is an army specialist, his wife and mother-in-law. The three said that they were victims of a robbery attempt. The family was traveling on I-95 in two separate vehicles with one vehicle pulling a u-haul trailer. When the vehicle pulling the u-haul trailer broke down they pulled off onto the exit ramp at the McLeod Road in Colleton County near Walterboro.

According to investigators, as the three were waiting for help, a silver colored sedan parked with three people inside. Police say a male suspect left the back seat and pointed a large caliber handgun at the mother-in-law. According to authorities, the suspect was covering his face with a cloth of some type and started ordering the mother-in-law as he referred to her as “pretty lady”.

Police say at that time, the son-in-law, who was doing mechanical work, stood up from behind his vehicle while the mother-in-law ran to her daughter and took cover. The son-in-law was armed and drew his weapon and ordered the suspects to leave several times, according to police reports.

Investigators say as the suspect turned and pointed his large caliber weapon,.50 caliber Desert Eagle handgun, the son-in-law fired several rounds striking the suspect. The suspect fell to the ground and dropped his weapon at that point. Detectives say the two other suspects in the vehicle helped the wounded suspect back into their vehicle and fired several rounds back at the victim and then drove away.

1. While you have to believe that criminals have at least a general idea of the

risks involved in their "business", you have to wonder what would happen if the noise media gave more attention to stories like these.

2.  Does he get to keep the Desert Eagle?
A fifty cal DE is worth $900-1100. Not a bad payback for an attempted hold up.

3. I wondered that myself
However, the original owner would most likely want it back. Presumptively the perp did not purchase it.
