If 10-20 million gun owners decided to each build a machine gun
In a complete and spectacular violation of our social contract , could they then squeeze an amnesty and/or reopening of the NFA registery out of the BATF&E ?

1. Rivet kits would surely be in short supply
And there would be a run on ball-peen hammers.

4. Rivits, shmivits...
ammo is in short supply as it is.

Having another 10-20 million full-autos to feed would almost certainly hasten a "peak ammo" crisis.

2. I think you should all build home-made nukes, just to prove a point.

8. No, nukes aren't a right.
Nukes are not a weapon carried by an infantry soldier as his personal arm.

11. Why build, too easy to buy them from illegal immigrants.
Then again, I must admit there is the matter of affording time off from work and travel expenses to go set up near the Rio Grande to solicit incoming Somalians for spare nukes or bio weapons.

6. Want full auto... go buy a mac or uzi
$2800-$6000 really isn't that bad when you consider all costs involved.
I'll bet in <4 years you shoot more ammo through the gun than it is worth.

Take out a 60mo loan for ~$75 a month and buy a nice little .22lr/9mm machinegun.
Buy an M16 receiver for a little more and shoot any caliber under the sun. :)
Best part is... as long as the NFA is on the books your firearm increases in value.

10. From what I hear from MG owners... the cost of the gun is really not that much...
compared to the cost of the ammunition to feed it!

7. I believe that there is ...
only about 250,000 NFA machine guns in the national registry. I would love for more to be added to knock down the current prices but I doubt we would get anywhere close to one million since the demand is not there.

9. If we can just must enough collective will to repeal FOPA...
...we could fix that. For the time being, I'd even be willing to compromise with a 10-year embargo on new NFA registries for full-auto, but once that gun turns 10 years old, it goes on the registry where any qualified citizen can snatch it up.

The rest are owned by law enforcement agencies.

12. It's easier than you think
Anyone with basic metalworking and welding knowledge, and access to standard metalworking equipment, can build a WWII Sten Gun.

They were designed exactly so the components could be mass-manufactured by small shops throughout England.

One can be built with only five hours of work.

Personally, I think most of the restrictions placed upon otherwise law-abiding gun owners are a violation of the contract between the people and their government.

14. The Israeli Dror LMG shouldn't be too difficult either
http://world.guns.ru/machine/mg78-e.htm

Apparently, a small quantity were manufactured in underground workshops around 1948, so it shouldn't be too hard with modern day equipment.
