TX CHL percentage tops 2%

Approximately 2.25% of Texans have a CHL. (~1 in 44 adults.)

404,795 CHL licenses & instructor licenses are active

Compare to 316,085 CHL licenses & instructors at the end of last year- ~33% increase year over year.

138,768 new licenses this year, 22% of which were to women (+3% change).

1. I wonder what the state-by-state breakdown would be for

concealed carry permits. Don't really have the time to research it.........just idle curiosity.

2. Not all states make finding those stats easy..

FL & TX have the most comprehensive, publicly available numbers.

...the Department of Justice, Bureau of Statistics. You might also find some somewhat dated (decade, perhaps) statistics at gunfacts.info.

1,744,945 licenses have been issue between October 1, 1987 to March 31, 2010. 709,591 permits are currently valid. In the entire 22 year period ONLY 167 were revoked for a crime committed that involved the misuse of a firearm after the license was issued.

7. For a quick comparison with TX...

a recent Tulsa World article quoted the number of CCW permits in Oklahoma at 96,767. The article concerned a bill in the state legislature to lift the ban on open carry, and from what I'm hearing from my peers, that number will rise drastically if the bill passes(the same license would cover both open and concealed).

What baffles me is why someone would be all gung-ho to open carry, but indifferent to concealed, but that's for another thread.
