Iowa joins "shall issue" ranks
DES MOINES -- Gun advocates cheered loudly Thursday as Gov. Chet Culver eased an impediment for some seeking permits to carry a concealed weapon by approving a standardized process that will apply equaling in all 99 Iowa counties beginning next Jan. 1.

During a ceremony in the Statehouse rotunda, Culver signed legislation that will make Iowa a "shall issue" state when it comes to county sheriffs issuing permits to acquire or carry a concealed weapon.

"This bill strikes an appropriate balance, recognizing the rights of law-abiding Iowans guaranteed by the Second Amendment and the duty of local law enforcement officers," Culver said. "We all have a role to play in public safety. I believe this is a good bill that has the potential to keep Iowans safer."

6. veiled penis canard and guilt by association combined with the fear card
really? that's the best you can do

sounds about right for your goal - limiting civil rights.

about on par with those who advocate for limiting freedom

18. i am sorry to hear that
i had seen the ODMP entry, since i check it nearly every day. i did not know you knew him, and that simply sucks.

after last year in WA state, where we had a REALLY bad year for cops killed, i know exactly how you feel

(2nd day back on duty after returning from afghanistan... according to ODMP)
(odmp entry)...

Deputy Ian Deutch was shot and killed as he and another deputy responded to a shooting call at a casino in Pahrump, Nevada.

A woman had called 911 and then fled to the casino during a domestic disturbance in which a man had fired a rifle at her. As Deputy Deutch and his partner exited their vehicle the man, who had followed her to the casino, opened fire on them with an SKS rifle.

Deputy Deutch was struck three times in the abdomen, with the rounds penetrating his vest. A third responding deputy returned fire and killed the suspect.

Deputy Deutch was a member of the Nevada Army National Guard and was on his second day back on duty after returning from a deployment to Afghanistan. He had served with the Nye County Sheriff's Office for six year.

we are in real shock here in Pahrump, His brother is on the Sheriff's Dept also and had just returned from Afghanistan also. The outpouring from the community is just awesome.
Thank you everyone for the condolences.
His funeral is tomorrow in Las Vegas and I have permission from LVFR to attend in my dress blues along with members of the Pahrump Fire/Rescue.

9. When you put "n/t" in your subject line
anything you put in the body of the message generally gets ignored because people skip over it assuming that you didn't put text there...like your subject line said.

33. I doubt most anti-RKBA types understand the real significance of "shall" vs. "may" issue and that's
because they won't take the time to understand the find print in debates over the civil right to keep and bear arms for self defense.

A real pity IMO.

34. They don't care about "may" vs. "shall" issue
To the anti-gunners, guns are bad and must be banned or else it'll be the wild west (which was actually quite tame) on every street in America. (I'm still waiting for that to happen).

35. Don't care is right and they complain because they lose every debate on RKBA. They avoid DU's Guns
forum IMO because they know they will lose every exchange if they only have ad hominem ammunition to use against facts.

36. I've run into those (I won't mention screen names) who pontificate
from on high taking the attitude of an "enlightened" liberal who considers all pro 2A people in the gun forum as closet conservatives. It's amazing. They can't reconcile a liberal who owns, shoots and CCW guns. In their view, you're not a liberal if you have anything to do with guns.

37. In fact if you oppose individual civil rights you are not liberal nor progressive. The two words
are so corrupted as to be useless in any political discourse.
