Police chief called coward!
http://www.suntimes.com/news/cityhall/2142373,weiss-cut-run-says-retired-cop-040610.article

You gotta love Chicago and its endemic corruption. Gunfire breaks out in a high crime neighborhood during a photo op by Police Superintendant Jody Weiss (a career bureaucrat who never spent a day as a real cop) and his response is to say, "I gotta go now......" as he ducks into his armored SUV and speeds off.

1. Make no mistake, even with several cops in the vicinity the police cannot protect you.
More or less, you are responsible for yourselfin practice and as proscribed by law.
Officers of the law have NO legal duty to protect indivuals not in their custody.

2. Since only the Mayor and Alderman can legally carry concealed
that pretty much means only criminals can carry guns in Chicago. But they recognize the problem and are going to work on it.

7. not really
the case law says they have no legal duty to protect any specific individual

it does not therefore follow that they CANNOT PROTECT YOU.

it merely means they (as you state in your second sentence) they have NO duty not to protect individuals (not in custody AND that they have not established certain relationsip with (such as dispatcher telling person something specific as to response etc. etc)

police can and do frequently protect people.

i have taken kicks to the head protecting people and suffered smoke inhalation pulling people from a building so don't tell me we CANNOT protect you.

cops can and do. routinely

as for THIS case, that wasn't a cop. that was a COP-O-CRAT

:)

4. $310,000 a year?
I think he should be making a lot closer to the same money his patrolmen earn.

And that he should be fired. I love it, "scene was secured" but that didn't involve actually catching the murderer.

How many Chicago police officers does it take to "secure" a scene anyway?

5. It is time for
Chicagoans to revolt against their inability to defend themselves against these types of attacks...the current restrictions have not worked. Maybe the people of Chicago will someday realize that in cities across the US which have shall issue concealed carry, crime rates are lower..
