Armed homeowner sends intruder fleeing - (Displayed weapon, bad guy took off)
A Johnson County, Missouri homeowner reportedly used his handgun to protect himself and his wife from a home invader.

Police say that the the man and his wife were in their home at about 10 AM when they heard a noise outside. Knowing that there had been a recent burglary next door, the homeowner reportedly grabbed his handgun, and went downstairs, where he found a burglar attempting to jimmy open the back door. The homeowner is said to have displayed his handgun and issued a verbal warning, which reportedly sent the intruder fleeing.

1. Tulsa man accused of shooting at tractor-trailer
http://www.news-leader.com/article/20100223/NEWS01/2230335/-1/ARCHIVES/Tulsa-man-accused-of-shooting-at-tractor-trailer

A 50-year-old Tulsa man was arrested Monday after Highway Patrol troopers say he shot at the tires of a tractor-trailer and fled.

Jeffrey D. Payton was apprehended in Springfield about 9:30 a.m. after fleeing from Lawrence County. He has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and second-degree assault, all felonies.

Bracker said road rage is thought to be involved. He said the patrol received a call from the tractor-trailer driver saying a man had been shooting at the tires of the 16-wheeler while the two drove down I-44.

Clearly he should never have been allowed to own or carry a gun, concealed or openly. The only question I would have is whether you think the victims should also have had guns and started blasting away at each other on the interstate or whether, maybe just maybe, not everyone should be allowed to own and carry a gun.

2. Certainly not everyone should have a gun. Shall we let you decide who gets the privilege? nt

8. I would put limites on gun ownership.

Not as severe as you probably hope but yes, there are people who shouldn't be allowed to have a gun. Applications to buy and nationwide checks on those applying for gun applications would be #1 on my list.

11. May I see you applications to buy books please?
And no complaining if some faceless functionary determines you have no 'need' for the sort of literature you want.

3. The driver did the right thing, according to the article
The bad guy was shooting at the tires, not at the driver. The driver called for assistance and the bad guy was caught. There was no blasting away on the freeway, and as far as I can tell, anytime that happens, it's usually bad guys all the way around that are doing the blasting, usually with illegal weapons that, according to law, they shouldn't have in the first place.

5. Why are you attempting to conflate...
a legal action by a Citizen, with an illegal action by a criminal?

And why are you trying to imply that people here think "everyone should have guns"?

7. Would you prefer the idiot that drove within city limits
with a population of over 150,000 trying to shoot at a purse snatcher? By the way, when the law caught up to him they did remove his guns in spite of your probable disapproval.

9. Trouble is, many of us have had confrontations with intruders,
While exceedingly few of us have have tried to shoot the tires out of trucks or shoot purse snatchers.

10. Link, please?
In the meantime, chasing down a criminal while shooting at them is not self-defense.

Citizens Arrest laws probably don't cover that, and probably shouldn't.

I have no problem with telling someone who did such things that they are going to loose their Rights and priviliges for a while, barring some extraordinary extenuating circumstance.
