Family Day in Georgia
Granted, most of these weapons can't be used for self-defense purposes, but they look like a helluva lot of fun to shoot.

In service for how long, now?

I have never seen a belt-fed G3 type before. Maybe it was intended to be a port gun on a panzerkampfwagen.

Anyway.

I generally consider full-auto a good way to turn money into noise. But, if it floats your boat, you have the cash, and you don't hurt anybody in the process, why not?

EDIT: (Dons asbestos-lined suit.)

11. I fired about 70 rounds through an M2 (or M3?) off the gunwale of a Navy ship once
That was really, really fun. We were about halfway between Hawaii and San Diego. I was shooting at long range, brief bursts then watching the splashes as my bullets skipped off the glassy water way off in the distance.

19. YO! I got to do the very same thing on the fantail of the USS America...
It was fucking AWESOME! Three round bursts. The first would land in the general vicinity of the target and the next two were nowhere near it.

It was the Fourth of July and we were in the Med.

OT, I wonder how many DU'ers read your subject line and heard "gunwhale" in their minds... LOL

5. Looks like fun.
Kind of expensive for my budget. Ammo, even reloaded, when used at that rate of fire isn't cheap. Many of those guns were very expensive. The German WWII machine guns go for a huge price, starting at around $20K+.

6. It does look like fun
Unfortunately, it isn't in my budget either.

I got a kick out of the girl who was completely stoked after firing the machine gun.

18.  Saw a German 1945 MG42 for sale, started at $40,000
Included tripod, optical sight, 3 xtra 8mm barrels, 3 .308 barrels, tool kit, and electric linker.

If you can afford the toy, the ammo is no problem to afford. MG42 rate of fire is 1200rpm.
Was known to American and British troops as "Hitlers Zipper" because of the sound it made.

7. It is touching to see all of the baby daddies that showed up .
Perhaps they lured them off their stoops with promises of free beer and cigarettes ?

Harry Beckwith would argue as to the usefulness of such machines for SD . Keeping them for this also has a great deal to do with just how thin one feels the veneer of civilzation really is . Mostly , its fun to disentigrate wood pallets and the like .

13. The "lured them off their stoops with promises of free beer and cigarettes"...
comment should have at a minimum a sarcasm thingie attached unless you want to insult a large group of people who enjoy shooting and live in Georgia.

I agree that these are not self defense weapons and yes, it is fun to "rock and roll".

26. Here ya go
An example of real life baby mommas and baby daddies taking their kids shooting .

http://www.kfsm.com/news/kfsm-news-rv-baby-shot-robbery...

"A one-year-old baby who was shot Saturday during a robbery in Roland has died.

Meanwhile, two people are in custody in connection with the robbery Saturday afternoon. 19-year-old Michael Clemente of Fort Smith turned himself in to authorities on Sunday, while Fort Smith Police arrested a 17-year-old male Monday afternoon.

Sheriff Ron Lockhart said the two of them broke into a home north of Roland and attacked 21-year-old Devin Jeremiah, stealing guns, cash and other items in the process.

When his two attackers tried to flee, Jeremiah was recovered enough to fire several shots at their car with a .22 rifle. Lockhart said the car's driver was a Fort Smith woman, and her one-year-old daughter, Keene, was in the back seat. Keene was struck by at least one of the bullets that hit the car, and Lockhart said the people in the car headed to Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith. The suspects reportedly threw out the stolen items as they went."

I'm sure the items stolen and recovered were much more valuable than the little girl.

had the experience of firing a full auto weapon but would find it enjoyable if they had the opportunity and the courage to try it.

All those people, all those weapons, on full auto, and yet, no one got hurt. I bet that really pissed off the anti-gun people.
