I mailed off my request to renew my concealed weapons permit on Feb 5. I received my license today two weeks later!

The new permit cost me $65 plus the cost of a passport photo and a stamp and is good until 2017.

Who says that government is always inefficient?

Scott Perry (R-92) introduced House Bill 40 last January. It would eliminate the “duty to retreat” in self defense situations. Currently, if you’re out somewhere, and an attacker threatens you with a pocket-knife, then, you, pull out your handgun, you must “retreat”, if you feel like you can get out of the situation safely and avoid the use of deadly force. House Bill 40, or, the Castle Doctrine, would eliminate that duty, which, Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico calls a dangerous idea… Currently in Pa., citizens do not have to retreat if they are defending themselves from an attacker inside their home or place of work. Marsico says changing the law and widening the scope of acceptable deadly force will make it difficult to prosecute daily criminal cases… Supporters, like the National Rifle Association, believe the duty to retreat protects criminals, and that victims should always be allowed the right to defend themselves… (The problem with maintaining a duty to retreat is that it increases the likelihood that a person who defends himself will need to prove to a jury that it was not safe for him to attempt retreat.)

5. That's quick! The last time

I renewed Texas DPS when over their time allotment. I filed a complaint with my state Rep and had me license in 2 weeks. A week after that I got a phone call from DPS to see if a had received my CHL.

Don't be a passive "Patsy" folks; assert yourself to make sure things get done. The possibilities are two.

1) they don't car and the elected Rep will make them care.
2) They care but are understaffed.

In either case your Rep can make a difference.

and several who have concealed carry permits, including my next door neighbor and my ex boss.

"Shall issue" concealed carry would have never passed in Florida if the white majority would have been as racist as you suggest.

The government of Florida keeps African Americans from owning guns in the same way they keep them from voting. They criminalize being black.

I know black people that belong to the republican party. It does not then follow that the republican party is not a racist organization.

17. You know, I thought that was odd, but I totally support it.

I got mine last year, and it had my address on it. When I moved it took a little while for me to go "oh shit!" and remember, at which point I jumped online. I expected a fee for a new card and maybe to have to send in a new picture, but they just said fill out the change of address form, we're not sending you a new one unless you really want to pay us for one.

Now I understand why, if the current ones don't have addresses on them at all.

As I said, I'm all for that. My CCW is not a primary form of ID, and I don't anticipate ever showing it to anyone except an officer, if that for any reason becomes necessary. The point of the thing is to show that I'm allowed to carry a concealed weapon, not to prove who I am.

I wonder if this was in response to people who lost/had stolen their card, and then either were or feared they would be robbed? Now that I think about it, carrying it in my wallet, which also holds my DL, may not be the brightest idea.

I will just notify Florida online. Changing your address is still a requirement.

It is therefore important that you keep our office informed if you move or change your mailing address. Section 790.06(8), Florida Statutes, requires licensees to inform our office within thirty (30) days of the permanent change of address. If you do not let us know about your address change, you will in all likelihood not receive your renewal notice.


If you do change addresses, you must notify our Division of that change in writing. However, you can conveniently submit a change of address online via our web site.

19. It took 7 days total for mine to arrive.

It was recommended to go to one of the express regional offices to get it more quickly (and decrease the chances of bungled/lost paperwork). They did the background and fingerprint check in a fairly short amount of time. Their new system is quite impressive.
