Hunters have a successful weeklong hunt in OH
Link

<snip>

Hunters killed 116,004 deer in the weeklong gun season that ended Sunday, state wildlife officials said Monday.

Wildlife officials said as many as 450,000 hunters participated in the gun season. One hunter was killed and 10 were injured.

<snip>

So I guess those claims that hunting is dangerous is a bunch of Hooey, if I can use your word, MrBenchley.

Rate of death among OH hunters: 0.22/100,000
Rate of injury among OH hunters: 2.2/100,000

1. If somebody getting killed is your definition of "success"
I'd hate to hear what you thought a "disaster" would be...

3. How many were killed snow skiing?
or on weekend getaways

or drowned in the pool

or climbing their stairs

Gotta keep things in context.

Being alive is dangerous, and eventually it kiss us all.

...every day on the American Highway is an abject failure. All hospitals are miserable failures. Every workplace is falling apart and horribly dangerous.

There's no need for them, either. We all know how successful public transportation is.

26. Koresh forbid
we should have public transportation, fewer highway accidents and less pollution...

But then I don't know many people who spank their crank and pretend to be a noble sportsman when they drive to K-Mart, either...

Let's see that work in rural America. (You know, where the people who feed you live. That place with all the crops and animals.)

Let's do everything in America the way yokels do.....Let's tramp arround with manure in our boots and say stuff like "Land o'goshen!"

By the way, don't look now, but most of our food comes from huge agricultural corporations, who depend on the illegal immigrants gun nuts routinely scream and rant about for labor.

32. I have had two friends that were hunters killed
Edited on Thu Dec-11-03 06:52 AM by demsrule4life
by drunk drivers enroute back home from a hunt. So I feel driving to and from a hunt is much more of a risk then the hunt itself.

To put a face to it the person on the right side of the photo is Bruce Averill, along with his wife Katie owners of one of the best borzoi kennels in the states. Bruce and a hunter friend of his was hit headon by a drunk driver driving home from a hunt. Bruce was trapped in the van he was driving and burned to death. Why don't you anti's drop a line to Katie and ask her what is more dangerous. I'am sick of antis acting like the only people killed in accidents are those accidents that involve firearms.

What happened to your friends is tragic. But it does nothing to justify a pro-gun position.

5. Another question
How many of the injuries are nothing more than twisted ankles from walking on uneven terrain?

Would some people here call those firearm injuries since the person was holding a rifle when they twisted their ankle?

Bambi is pretty good eating. It should also go a long way toward helping to prevent the spread of CWD and starvation death among the deer population.

<on edit>

Hunting is no more dangerous than 100's of other recreational activities we participate in. Are you grousing about the death, or are you just anti-gun and anti-hunting?

People abuse opoid derivative analgesics (such as morphine) - let's ban it

People assault and kill with cars - let's ban them

People kill one another with knives - let's ban them (that's how the Chinese got chop sticks)

People fly airplanes into building and kill people - let's ban them

People drown people - let's ban liquids

People commit arson, often resulting in the death of innocents - let's ban fire

People kill people with blunt instruments - let's ban hammers, baseball bats, pipe, tire irons, etc.

People strange or beat people to death with their bare hand - let's amputate all hands (feet, too for the karate and kickboxing crowd)

Are you getting my point yet?

On topic. A great hunt. Sadly marred by one death and a few injuries. My heartfelt condolences to the survivors of the hunter that was killed and wishes for speedy recoveries to those injured.
