Man in court after pulling gun on a female police officer

A manhunt began about 9.30am after a man pointed a handgun at a woman police officer during a routine vehicle stop in Naenae.

He then fled on foot leaving behind his vehicle.

The search ended when a man voluntary turned himself in to the Lower Hutt police station shortly after 6pm, Inspector Geoff Gwyn said .

He had been charged with presenting a firearm at police and remanded in custody to appear in Lower Hutt District Court this morning.
