ILLINOIS: Number Of Women Buying Handguns Increasing

Local gun shop owners say they're seeing an increase in the number of women shoppers right now. The reasons, they say, are many, including the downturn in the economy and violence on the street.

According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, about 48 percent of people taking their first handgun seminars this year happen to be women. CBS 2's Pamela Jones reports on the growing trend.

And she's not alone. A National Shooting Sports Foundation survey found that the top two reasons women seek firearms training are for personal protection and target practice.

At Illinois Gun Works, the owners say they've seen a 40 percent increase recently in the numbers of women looking to take classes, and that the number of women coming in to purchase guns is rising, too.

7. That doesn't include the 3 Illinois women taking them out of my gun rack either!

So far my wife and two of our daughters have taken guns that I bought... so far. (Still have one daughter and two DILs waiting in the wings)

Two Marlin Model 60s and an S&W J Frame in .38 spl I picked up used have gone to "women in Illinois". So there are three more women with guns that didn't even go to a gun shop. (All 3 have their valid FOID cards and have gone through several safety classes.)

But I have noticed a lot more women at the shops and indoor ranges over the last few months and not just shopping with their husbands either.

9. Illinois will be the LAST state to have CCW

Daley is already using millions of tax $ to fight the Heller decision (again) in SCOTUS.

He has no problem allowing our oft crooked aldermen to carry concealed as "officers of the court" and surrounding himself and his family with armed security 24/7 but heaven forbid a citizen seeks the same privileges he has and we get the old "streets will run red with blood speech".

When SCOTUS strikes down the Chicago gun ban next year, he will flatly refuse to implement any new laws and will drag his feet until forced to change the law by Federal order. Then, when he has to or go to jail, he'll create a high, $500 or so, registration fee as a de facto ban.

Wisconsin will get CCW once Doyle leaves office as Governor. Illinois will be the last hold out.

But at least it gives gun control supporters who don't like CC a nice "safe" place to vacation with no guns allowed in the city or County and every gun owner registered with the state with a FOID card.
