Hampton Player Injured in Accidental Shooting

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — Hampton University says a basketball player is in critical condition after being accidentally shot.
Hampton police say Theo Smalling, a 22-year-old senior from Tampa, was shot just after midnight on Saturday morning.
Police spokeswoman Paula Ensley says the starting forward and captain was in a parking lot with Dominique Devon Smith when Smith mishandled a gun and accidentally shot Smalling.
It could not be immediately determined if Smith has a lawyer. The 21-year-old has been charged with reckless handling of a firearm.
In a statement on its website, Hampton University says Smalling is in critical condition, although it does not say which hospital he's being treated at.

Baseball (and hockey, to an extent) has it right, a minor league for recruiting purposes. Universities should be for education, not TV sports ratings.
