New Jersey calls it an "assault weapon": California does not
Some farmers in Warren and Hunterdon counties could be the owners of an illegal weapon and not even know it..............

(Nobody can even come to a clear, uniform definition of "assault weapon". This is sad.)

1. It takes seconds to change a magazine....
I guess the purpose of the high capacity magazine ban is to make people change magazines twice as often. How that is going to reduce criminal homocide is a mystery.

2. They thought it would keep the police from being outgunned.....
but since cops rarely carry more than 3 mags the criminals can simply carry more 10 rounders to even it out. Or so it seems.

3. Assault weapon bans...
in California are so poorly written, I sometimes think they were written by the NRA as part of an effort to discredit assault weapon bans.

Personal opinion: "assault weapons", as defined in California, are so rarely used in crimes that it is almost pointless to ban them.
Perhaps, instead of banning the weapons, we should up the penalty for the crimes where they are used; a 'kicker' so to speak, adding jail time for comminting a crime using certain weapons.

5. Hot Tip:
I know this guy. Have for a long time. I also know he was out there blasting away, full rock 'n roll, with an AK-47. Really. The sound of full RnR attracted both state cops and local cops from a neighboring municipality(Liberty Twp. has no municipal police force).

He's a lovely fellow, but being the scion of a very rich family has given him little appreciation for the rules that daily affect us little folk. Needless to say, this being Warren County, money talks and everything else walks. So, the charges got downgraded.

Trust me, my sources are beyond impeccable and unimpeachable. This is the way business is done here. I expect that just like another time, where automatic weapons were involved, contributions to the county repukes either have been or will be made. The person in the previous incident ended up in a barricade situation with a medium arsenal, with a Thompson and an M2 in his posession. He blew his brains out, finally.
