Police Swarm To Bungie On Weapons Call During Kotaku Visit

Kirkland police, contacted today for more details, said a passerby on their way to the local farmer's market called 911 saying that they thought they saw someone walking down the street with an AK-47 about 4:20 p.m.

1. Well, it does look like some existing .50-cal rifles...
...but, yeah, the only way you'd mistake that prop for an AK is if you don't actually have clue what an AK looks like.

5. Mechem NTW-20
Edited on Tue Sep-08-09 09:52 AM by raimius
I saw something very close to that at world.guns.ru (great technical source of information).
It is modeled after a South African anti-material rifle in 14.5mm or 20mm.
Both calibers would qualify the that rifle (or similar) as NFA items (rifle over .50cal).

The real one weighs over 50lbs!

9. That one is probably a prop. The NTW-20 was the model for the sniper rifle in the Halo game.

14. Definitely a prop
Sorry for any confusion.

There is no way that thing is a real NTW-20. Look at the guy's grip. There is no way he is supporting a 50+ pound rifle!
(Besides the fact that the model is not great quality.)

4. Blame the clueless media for this one
Every time there was a shooting with a rifle and in there desire to create sympathy for their gun grabbing cause, they cried that it was done with an AK. Even though they didn't know what one looked like them self. The uninformed masses just followed suit.

This is the commercial for the game that the prop was built for/used in.

7. Judging by the matted and framed prints
And the spindly-ness of the whole affair ,he is likely holding some kind of airsoft or simulated weapon (toy). He was likely angling for something like this ......

22. I keep misreading the thread title as "Police swarm to bungLe..."
Maybe I'm being unfair on Kirkland PD, but then again...

Interlake Sporting Association (http://www.interlakesporting.org/), which in a small triangle of unincorporated King County wedged between Redmond and Kirkland, got in trouble a while back because somebody failed to observe safety rules and sent a bullet over the backstop. It landed in a residential neighborhood, two yards or so from a lady who was getting groceries out of her car. As I say, ISA got blamed for this, which struck me as a little unfair, considering it was a member of Kirkland PD who had fired the offending bullet without observing the range safety rules.

I mean, you try to be a good citizens by letting the local cops practice on your range (they have to practice somewhere), and this is what you get.
