Obama Admin quietly removes "Assault Weapon Ban" from whitehouse.gov website
If you look at the 'http://change.gov/agenda/urbanpolicy_agenda/Urban Policy">Urban Policy' part of the change.gov transition website, you'll still find this:

Address Gun Violence in Cities: Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.

That paragraph used to appear on the whitehouse.gov website under the http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/urban_policy/'Urban Policy'">Urban Policy section, but it has vanished into the ether.

no AWB, no "gunshow loophole," no "childproofing," and no backdoor registry by repealing of the Tiahrt Amendment............The gun control section has been eighty-sixed completely.

Did someone finally get the memo?

15. Me, too. I had a rat problem a few years ago and got a nice air rifle.
Similarly fitted with a laser sight.

A Beeman R-1 .20 cal/5mm pretty serious, one shot and doesn't draw attention.

4. Need?
What does "need" have to do with it? Do you need everything you own? Do you need your "massive" gun collection?

8. husband attached to Glock with laser
he has Parkinsons and believe he feels very vulnerable and bless his heart...if it makes him feel better am ok with it as looks like a target for perps... has concealed weapon permit (lots of training in our state to attain) In his younger days he could give a look and jerks would back down...but now it's different. The rest of gun collection were inherited...a collection like any collector would accumulated for investment. Go ahead flame me.

21. Most proposed bans on "assault weapons" would also snag most Glock magazines
Edited on Sat May-02-09 09:32 PM by benEzra
unless they were reduced to hold only 10 rounds. Most Glocks hold 13 to 17 rounds in the magazine, except for the subcompact ones like the G26/G27.

My wife shoots a G26, but she keeps a G19 magazine in it while at home.

5. I use my AR-15 w/ scope..
.. for javelina hunting in AZ (at least I did last year).

Lighter recoil, less apt to get dinged up, lighter, and with 5 round mag, perfectly legal.

18. I own a Kel Tec Su-16.
It is a semi-automatic sporting carbine that fires the very inexpensive (at least it used to be) .223 Remington round. Common uses are target shooting, plinking, varmint and small game hunting, and home defense. One of the useful features of the rifle is that it folds completely in half and you can put it in a backpack for hiking where there might be dangerous animals.

I live in California, arguably one of the most restrictive states for firearm ownership. My rifle is perfectly legal to own here. Due to an injury from boxing, my wrist starts to hurt after holding the rifle for a while. I modified my Ruger 10/22 rifle with a pistol grip which helps to alleviate the strain on my wrist. It worked and is perfectly legal. I cannot however do the same with my Kel Tec because putting a pistol grip turns it into a dreaded "assault weapon". So answer me this? How does adding an ergonomic feature turn a perfectly legal weapon into an "assault weapon"? Does it alter the mechanical function of the rifle? Does it make it any more lethal? What classifies my California legal rifle as an "assault weapon" other than a cosmetic change?

20. You may own several "assault weapons" without realizing it.
Edited on Sat May-02-09 09:31 PM by benEzra
"Assault weapon" is Brady-speak for the most popular civilian rifles in the United States, plus a few popular shotguns and Olympic-style target handguns.

"Assault weapons" dominate competitive and recreational target shooting in this country, and taking H.R.1022 as the operative definition, more Americans own them than hunt. And that's not even considering the ban on over-10-round guns that is usually part of the bait-and-switch.

This is an "assault weapon" according to the repubs at the Brady Campaign:

That's a Ruger mini-14 Ranch Rifle, banned by name by H.R.1022.

FWIW, I shoot recreationally and competitively---IPSC/USPSA---with a so-called "assault weapon" in 7.62x39mm (SAR-1), and my wife shoots one recreationally (antique Russian SKS).

that infringes on the right of citizens to keep and bear arms for self-defense."

12. That's probably a bridge too far
He has enough accusations of being right-wing-favoring already... and the recent spate of shootings and nutjobs killing police officers isn't helping, either.

Safest path: if it doesn't get to his desk, he can't sign it!

9. I'm sure it has turned into a thorn in his side.
We have all used to prove our point that he wants to take guns. And it is bad for him politically.
He will make a run for guns *at a time and place of his choosing*. But now. Now is the worse possible time.

25. plain and simple.............
given Obama's history and voting record, he is clearly anti-gun. How much of that agenda he pursues and when depends strictly on which voters he thinks need pandering.

To think any different is to be "blinded by love."

Like the guy who met his wife while she was cheating on her first husband, he shouldn't be too surprised if she goes back to her old ways.........
