Wayne LaPierre horse whips Ed Rendal on live TV.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acokf3c-D3k

I really like calling them out when they tell whopping lies like Ed Rendal was trying to get away with.

LOL, "When the cameras went away, YOU, went away"

1. "Every police organization"
Supports the assault weapons ban?

Please.....

Professional "organizations" may take a political position but the police officers I know don't support it. They're hunters and sports shooters as well.

3. Here are a few examples:
The International Association of Chiefs of Police. The International Brotherhood of Police Officers and the Fraternal Order of Police all support an assault weapons ban. They are not concerned, nor are they tasked with upholding the United States Constitution. They are concerned only with making their member's jobs easier and exposing them to less risk. I suppose they'd also be safer if instituted a nationwide curfew and confined people to their homes every night but I guess they figure that position isn't politically popular.

7. correct, i'm a cop and can confirm this
gun grabbers always quote IACP et al.

that's like quoting the viewpoints of car company CEO's as evidence of what assembly line workers think.

IACP et al do NOT represent real cops.

4. It's about time LaPierre grew a spine, especially if
he wants any future members for the NRA. Maybe he finally noticed that he can't just sit around in Washington and hand out tidbits to the non-hunter crowd anymore.

5. Thanks for providing the link. Rendal's logic could easily...
lead to even more Prohibition laws than we already have. If an occasional police officer loses his life because of a drunk driver crashing into him while he's writing a traffic ticket (maybe to fill his quota), then by golly why does ANYONE need to have access
to alcohol? Get my drift?

6. No, his logic would ban the color car....
Not the car itself, the person driving it, OR their state of mind...

But by damned, those RED CARS ARE A MENACE!!!!!

11. Banning certain color cars is coming - I kid thee not!
http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/cool-paints/final_cool_cars_workshop_presentation31209.pdf

Once all cars are white or silver, what are we going to do to keep the sunlight out of all those large sloping windows on the pro-typical Prius? Make all the glass into one way mirrors?

9. It was good, but...
It was good, but once again, the NRA steadfastly refuses to publicly state the fundamental reason why firearms are supposed to be owned.

When asked what use a civilian assault weapon serves, he need only quote Heller:

"First, “it is useful in repelling invasions and suppressing
insurrections. Second, it renders large standing armies
unnecessary . . . . Third, when the able-bodied men of a nation
are trained in arms and organized, they are better able to resist
tyranny.”"

I am continually annoyed that, when asked straight out why people need to own firearms - any kind of firearm - the NRA won't simply say, "To shoot tyrants."

13. Well he made some mistakes.
Primarily, calling Assault Weapons military weapons that we don't have access to. Assault RIFLES are military weapons, Assault WEAPONS are whatever the Congress decides makes them feel uncomfortable that week. It's a meaningless term, when talking about the power, cyclic rate, or any other attribute of a weapon. That, or some variation of it should have been his counterpoint.

So his tack on that phrase was a bit off.

14. Well who the heck KNOWS just what it is anymore?!
Edited on Tue Apr-21-09 02:57 AM by virginia mountainman
The Brady's and their ilk, have muddied this issue so much with their bullshit, no one knows what to call what anymore..

I mean really... lets see..

They, and their minions have called them; "Assault Rifles", "assault weapons", "assault guns", "killing machines", "semi-fully automatic", (<--That one was in the news last week) "mass killing guns", "bullet hose", "AK47's", "cop killers", etc...etc....

I mean really, :wtf:

And that is by design..If we gunnies are confused, what about the general public???

15. VPC has taken it one step further
As you noted, "Assault Weapons" was invented by VPC to create confusion with "Assault rifles." Now, VPC is just calling everything an "assault rifle" to drive home the confusion any more.

I thought Wayne did a good job. The problem with debating this in a time-constrained format is that when the other side states its "big lie," you have so much ammo to respond with it is tough to choose what facts to throw at them. It is the basic soundbite debating technique of gun grabbers hoping that no matter how outrageous the statement, it will help shore up support of a certain segment of the population pre-disposed to support them.

Edited on Tue Apr-21-09 10:11 AM by dairydog91
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturmgesch%C3%BCtz_III">Here is a real "assault gun". Probably excessive in regards to home defense.

Edit: Though I'd imagine moose-hunting would be a blast.

He better hope that is a welded on "muzzle brake" instead of a screwed on one! If not he could be in violation of the Assault Weapons ban!!!!!! But if it is welded...He is legal....
